TMOBILES charges on cell

I got a message from MTN informing me that TMOBILES debited my account for "inspirational messages". I never signed up for this, neither did I receive any of this. I phoned MTN on which I was informed that a lot of customer already have this problem. MTN gave me the phone number for TMOBILES (011 476 7710), but this this number is either engaged, or goes to an automatic mail box that is full. I am seriously considering reporting this to the police as fraud. Any comments from others?

Hi a new debit of R5 on my autopage account surprised to find out that this company is called Tsogo IT and part of T Mobiles, after many frustrating hours on the phone with Autopage useless call centre with no luck it looks like we will have to part with R5 whenever they decide to take our money. To be honest Autupage is part of this scam. Is there anybody that can advise me what to do.

  • Wayne3 6 May 2011, 04:27 PM

For information TMobileSA and Mr Lebepe continue to not respond apart from legal action against individuals and also now against MTN. Why are they hiding and even while they aware if the web postings and potray themselves as social media and communication they do not provide their side of the story. However they have put in writing that they made an "error" and will refund direct and indirect cost? But talk is cheap and maybe they just looking at other ways to take advantage of the public! MTN is taking action and their management are clear on resolving. Vodacom seems to have blocked TMobile already. MTN SP are also proactive and open in communication. Autopage I'd listening but yet to take positive action however management has agreed to a meeting on Monday. We still do not know where TMobile obtained our information from or any resolution what is preventing similar incidents in the future. Do please keep your complaints coming and do not forget to copy!

Hi Wayne there is a way to stop this by way of a petition this is a free on site method, just google sign a petition and all the guidelines provided. All consumers defrauded will have to provide an e-mail address sign the petition and forward, what's interesting is this has a counter of signatures and you can set a target as well. As soon as this goes on line to the public mtn and autopage will loose big time, they don't need this kind of exposure so let's do it.I'm sure this will spread like wild fire !

  • Yunus2 5 May 2011, 04:31 PM

Hi all its a relief just received an sms from mtn stating R5 will be reversed and action is underway with t mobile. A big thank you to Wayne and everybody else that posted comments. May God bless all of you. Yunus

  • Wayne3 5 May 2011, 03:31 PM

    - Autopage contact was made and they have started communicating with customers - they meeting TMobile tomorrow and we hoping to be included - TMobile is frantically trying to get customers to agree they subscribed by devious means. They also trying to get banking details - possibly to process payments as full and final settlements and limit their liability.  - their call centre continues to operate and is run by Peter Lebepe - obviously a family member - they still fail to have correct infrastructure as per own guidelines or regard for public interest or service

  • Wayne3 5 May 2011, 03:29 PM

latest updates  - TMobileSA has retained legal representation who sent me a otter this morning. Basically they tried to get me to agree I subscribed but at same time admitted error and offered to repay direct and indirect costs if I send them Bank details. Actually implied I was holding up resolution as I would not giving my bank details! They then went on to threaten me that I was tarnishing their reputation with postings and would send me a High Court Order and also proceed with civil action against me. - when I replied asking them to substantiate and provide information originally requested they stated they will not deal with me unless I appoint an attorney - they think they can scare people off but so arrogant they do not bother to check facts - MTN network and sp have started reversing charges and open an investigation - we are in contact with individuals there

  • Steve13 5 May 2011, 01:17 PM

Yes, got the same MTN sms. Glad somethings being done. BUT What is not being addressed is the fact that our private information is now in the public domain! This is far more troublesome than R5. These TMobileSA thieves got our details from somewhere, and have passed/sold it on to how many other 'partners'? They obviously have an open gateway into the MTN billing system and they have information none of us wanted distributed in the first place. Is handing out our information without our consent not breach of contract? This gross invasion of privacy should be 1 more charge on the sheet! How ever it turns out, I'll be jumping into the next fire as I will switch SP and see if the other side knows how to treat their customers.

  • Andrew26 5 May 2011, 10:27 AM

I just received an sms from MTN saying the charge will be reversed and the provider is being investigated..even though I'm with Autopage!

  • Tanya6 5 May 2011, 09:36 AM

I received the same sms on the 01 March 2011 re: my account deducted by TMobiles for inspirational quotes which i don't know anything about. I replied with the msg "stop" Today 05/05/11 i receieved an sms from MTN advising of taking action aganist TMobiles and reversing the deductions. I hope that everything will be sorted out soon

  • Lerato22 5 May 2011, 09:05 AM

I received the same sms on the 28 Apr 2011 re: my accounted deducted by TMobiles for inspirational quotes which i don't know anything about. Today 05/05/11 i receieved an sms from MTN advising of taking action aganist TMobiles and reversing the deductions.

  • DL Monnink 5 May 2011, 08:39 AM

Not sure about other service providers but I just got an SMS from MTN telling me that the deductions were done on my account (Not the original msg saying they took my money), that they are investigating and will be doing a reversal on the charges.

  • Wayne3 4 May 2011, 11:35 PM

Thank you all for the input. At present the most promising is MTN's investigation. However I am not sure they will reverse charges to non-MTN SP customers. I do agree that Autopage does seem to have a role and it is suspicious that they are not responding or assisting their customers. their call centre gives the same sorry we cannot assist today. Maybe somebody has Craig Venter's email address and we can bring to his attention? On the suggestions of a fraud case - can somebody advise how members of the public can do this - be it against Mr Botha Lebepe of Wirels Connect or Autopage. If anybody can advise this will be appreciated. Advocate Kganane has not responded or threatened me again so I assume he has wisely declined his moment in the limelight. Please keep the complaints coming so we can stop this happening to others and hopefully recover our money and costs!

  • Daisygirl 4 May 2011, 10:00 PM

Any case should be laid against your service provider. They are the only people who can access your account therefore it has to be with their approval and assistance. To blame TMobile is is like saying Piet Pompies can help himself to R5 out of all their client's accounts, and there's nothing they can do about it. Come on, people!! Hold your service provider responsible and lay fraud cases there.

  • Andrew26 4 May 2011, 08:31 PM

Does anyone know if we can open a case against these people with the Commercial Crimes unit?

  • Username1044 4 May 2011, 06:20 PM

A respresentative from MTN actually phoned me today. They are busy working on this, and did suspend TMobile as Wayne said. They will also refund the deductions etc. I have asked MTN to block my phone from all this junk. It is apparently possible. As far as TMobile is concerned, I think it will be closed and some other scheme will be thought of. Or maybe Vodacom or Cell-C next? Not sure, but I think Wayne is right about WASPA. I have had a fight with MTN, reported both on hellopeter, and reported TMobile to WASPA. Not sure if anything else can be done.

  • Wayne3 4 May 2011, 06:08 PM

Well TMobileSA's cronies are running and none of them seem to be big enough to stand up to there actions now. All a bunch of low life criminals and poor examples. On a positive note MTN has finally heard and have come back to me confirming that they are aware of the problem and are investigating. In the interim they have suspended TMobile and will resolve by the weekend. They have indicated they are communicated with effected customers so maybe the SMS is from them? Also the first of TmobileSA's advertised customers have responded that they no longer want to be linked to these criminals and will also take action to distance themselves ! Now if only Autopage was also big enough to look after their customers! WASPA is a waste of time in my previous opinion as you will find people committing the crime like Mr Lebepe sit on their panel. Keep the complaints coming!

  • Wayne3 4 May 2011, 04:29 PM

Once again Mr Lebepe and his staff prove that they openly lie and deceive the public with no embarrassment or attempts to rectify! I received an SMS stating I had "unsubscribed" - but I never did subscribe so certainly not agreeing with that! Also that I am blocked from TMobile- thank goodness. Now just need all my other numbers! As to the refund - absolutely nothing! As to my costs - nothing! As to 3pm - come and gone! As to responding to my request for information and details - nothing. So are they admitting to theft, fraud, illegal activity? You make up your mind but they certainly not even embarrassed or doing anything to clear their name or rectify! MTN and Autopage - well they so arrogant they do not even respond and accept any responsibility! So maybe they are also guilty but they certainly not interested in helping or protecting their customers! So much for consumer protection! It is shocking that the system protects the criminals and the consumer has no say.

  • Wayne3 4 May 2011, 01:50 PM

Hi all Mr Lebepe and his cronies refuse to respond indicating to me they are fully aware of their companies illegal activity and should hence be personally liable! I called the call centre again and they blatantly lie. First the said calls are recorded which Phiona stated in writing they are not. They then call themselves T-Mobile Germany and only eventually admit to Wirels Connect! So they promised confirmation of stop, full refund and cost of around R8000 by 3pm today. I will not hold my breath as they made promises every day they do not keep. They also did not deny they obtained my info from MTN and Autopage - in fact offered to look my details up from my mobile number! Scary as they did not even verify it was me speaking! MTN and Autopage refuse to comment apart from their call centers saying tell somebody that cares! Even TMobiles Advocate will not respond to complaints he is now getting but I did ask him if he would not prefer to represent the consumer rather that the alleged criminals. At this stage I have no other advise then to try continue legally to recovr money and identity while rsteering additional costs to TMobile.

  • Craig5 4 May 2011, 09:27 AM

I too received the same said message. I called Autopage and they advised the R5 has been deducted for the last few months. I didn't even notice. I logged a query with Autopage. I also called Tmobile and spoke to Portia to cancel but I have not received a confirmation. I have emailed Tmobile with the email addresses provided in this formum. I also found the following complaint while searching the web ( It suggest we go to WASPA and log an official complaint where TMobile could be fined.

  • SteveP 3 May 2011, 04:06 PM

T Mobiles are obviously the perpetrators of the fraud (although it could be something as simple as some idiot putting the wrong instruction into their system... doubt it!) But MTN have clearly sold a subscriber list to these guys as there are no complaints from other network subscribers. MTN have to be held accountable!

  • Ann13 3 May 2011, 04:01 PM

I have sent an email to all three parties as per Wayne above and sms'd STOP to 37459. Waiting for a response...... This is shocking! MTN and Autopage also need to give us some answers.

  • Ria 2 3 May 2011, 02:45 PM

The same thing happened to me yesterday - a sms from MTN informing me that TMobile debited my account with R5,00 for "inspirational quotes". This is unacceptable as they suggest that I have to contact TMobile directly to query. TMobile has got an answering machine on an no further messages can be left.

  • Andrew26 3 May 2011, 02:25 PM

I have sent an email to all three as per Wayne above.Lets see.

Who are these people. TMobiles. How do we get to the bottom of this. Do we contact our service providers. Do you think CartBlanche can look into it!!!

  • Gary7 3 May 2011, 01:10 PM

There's a famous proverb that says, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you." My hand has been bitten and the R10's of thousands I spend on cell phone bills each year, will now be going to the competitors, regardless of the outcome of this debacle... and I don't think I'm the only one that will be following through on this promise!

  • Wayne3 3 May 2011, 01:10 PM

If I could request all to send an email of complaint to the following email addresses urgently. Replace at with the at-symbol please bothal at service at copy SA.Proudly at I am still looking for a MTN address - pls advise if anybody does have. Wayne, Can Mr Botha Lebepe please explain why he thinks this scam is not illegal?

  • madelaine5 3 May 2011, 12:41 PM

Exactly the same message was sent to me. I tried finding a number for T-mobile and then saw all of these comments. I will not also start to process of phoning and trying to get my R5 back. The reason for bad service in our country is because we so easily think that it is only R5 and then we don't go to the trouble to try and get it back.

  • Wayne3 3 May 2011, 10:59 AM

Just to advice all Mr Lebepe has set an attorney on me with the claims I am threatening their business and defamation calling it illegal. So in effect he is trying to gag me and make me the bad guy. I will make available all of my correspondence and their cover-up response. As yet MTN and Autopage has not responded. Any support will be appreciated in particular legal :) Wayne

  • Steve13 3 May 2011, 10:48 AM

Same story from my side. Got the R5 sms. Called MTN who will stop the subscription, but cannot tell me why they've invaded my privacy, distributed my number, and support this scam. Very bad show MTN!!! I will be investigating cancelling my Autopage/MTN subscription on the basis of breach of contract, and distribution of my contact details illegally. Our SP must have a duty to protect their customers from this crass exploitation - but remember that the whole affair profits MTN on every front. The pbhoney subscription sms costs you. The cancellation sms costs you. The phone calls to get this sorted costs you. The time you waste costs you. Nice one MTN - please rot in hell!!!

  • Manny 3 May 2011, 10:00 AM

Just had a call from Autopage that they are sending me a free service with free email account and some other services. It will be free for the first month. Two things, one, do they think they will ever sell me anything again after the R5 scam, and two, I thought that with the new Consumer Protection Act I should not be getting cold marketing calls anymore.

  • Carol19 3 May 2011, 09:52 AM

I also received this sms. If Autopage cannot protect me in this instance I will also be cancelling my contract which comes up for renewal very shortly. This is fraud - MTN and Autopage should be fighting this on behalf of their clients!!

  • Manny 3 May 2011, 09:49 AM

Tmobiles have charged my account with R5, but MTN has to pay it over to them. It is clear at this point in time that this is a scam. So MTN can step in and stop it if they want to. When my contract expires with Autopage in November, it is bye-bye to MTN and Autopage. Fortunately I will be able to take my number with me to the next contract where I hope to get good service and not to be ripped off. So there will be no need to get a new number and the inconvenience that goes with that.

  • Bianca27 3 May 2011, 09:11 AM

I also received the same sms!!! I am rather upset about the whole situation!! I phoned autopage today.......reading all of the above I thought they would immediately know of the TMobiles fraud scheme....guess what they don't or they pretend they don't!!!!! Why should I phone TMobiles to remove my name from a list if I didn't subscribe!!!!!!!!!!!! I am definately cancelling my contract with autopage, this is not the first mishap I am experiencing with them!!!!! I will also contact Carte Blanche!!!

  • Esme2 3 May 2011, 08:55 AM

I had the same sms regarding TMobile. Also reported it to Autopage! This is really not funny at all, who gave them permission to add a service onto my account?? This is fraud!!!!!

  • ricky2 3 May 2011, 07:21 AM

Same happened to me.I to feel this is theft and needs to be dealt with.

  • Judith4 3 May 2011, 07:17 AM

After reading through all of this, I will be opening a fraud case against T MobileSA at the the police on Tuesday, but will also take MTN on about this. I am sure this is a scam between MTN and their beloved T MobileSA. I am not happy that MTN allowed this money to be deducted to start with, but also giving out my cell number to anybody. I smell a rat. Maybe we must get as much details as we can together, and take it from there?

  • Helen10 2 May 2011, 08:14 PM

Hi All Luckily I am a Vodacom subscriber but my sister in law is not so fortunate and she too got the SMS yesterday. I just thought I'd remind all of you of your new consumer protection act rights and that you now have grounds on which to fight. The thing that scares me the most is the ignorance that comes through on the email sent to Wayne. They only address the issue of having an incompetent call centre. The biggest concern I have is how did they get ALL the MTN subscribers cell no's to debit and who gave them permission. When you purchase anything via cell you go through a process of giving the third party permission before they can debit your cell account - how did they bypass this step? Do MTN have involvement? I have advised my sister in law to contact MTN and threaten legal action based on her new consumer rights as they are your direct suppliers and you as subscribers have rights to recourse. I wish you all the best with fighting and hopefully this can help demonstrate just how well our new Consumer Protection Act really protects us.

  • Melanie 7 2 May 2011, 02:33 PM

I too am a victim of this scam! I agree that MTN and Autopage should be held liable and that they should effect refunds on behalf of all their customers who have been illegally charged. Autopage has no right to accept charges from a third party and then pass them on to us. I will support any action against MTN and Autopage and agree that a Carte Blanche exposure would be excellent.

I received my message on 1 May. A few things bother me about this, which I feel MTN should be held responsible for. First off the message says if I want to query the transaction I must contact T Mobiles, but no contact no. is given. Up until yesterday I had never even heard of T Mobiles. Surely the least MTN could do is provide a contact no. Second what is the R5 - per day, per week or per month? Most importantly of all, how dare they accept a subscription not authorized by me - where is the paper trail? If I received the SMS yesterday (a Sunday of all days) has MTN actually already paid the money over to T Mobiles? How do we establish that? Sorry, I have more questions than answers, but I am mad as a snake about this!

  • Jacques16 2 May 2011, 12:55 PM

I have also logged this on Carteblanche's site as a potential story for further investigation, providing links to both this site and to for further input. Maybe there is more to this than meets the eye?

  • Jacques16 2 May 2011, 12:30 PM

I also am a victim of this apparenet scam (Autopage subscriber) and have logged a complaint against them on as well as called TMobile...I'm sill awaiting a confirmation sms and operator said that money would be refunded! let's see what happens. MTN telephone customer service queue (083 173) keeps you on hold forever and I ran out of patience. I wouldn't be surprises if TMobile CEO et al make a run for it like the pyramid scheme people, cutting of all contact with victims?

  • Wayne3 2 May 2011, 12:03 PM

Well 11:00 came and went - no news from Mr Lebepe or his appointed representative - Phiona on ! Guess that is both the refunds and transparency gone. Obviously they no what they did is wrong and out trying to spend their loot they stole! My advise - do not be a victim - send the SMS, call, email, post on Facebook - ask when they will respond and ask when we will give our money back! Speak to their customers and contacts and make it clear they will be blacklisted for supporting criminals! Contact the Organisation Mr Lebepe will be speaking at asking that he explains his criminal ethics first! Log details to Carte Blanche and EWN asking that they also expose them. Search the Internet for the management of TMibileSA and ask them the same questions. If anybody can advise us on rights under various acts let us also see how we can take them to task but unfortunately they use out money to buy legal support and protection!

  • Hannes Gertenbach 2 May 2011, 11:07 AM

It seems as if Mr Botha Lebepe will shaking his pocket on this one.A full and transparent explanation would not be good enough a full refund and apology along with this would go some way, we are waiting in anticipation Mr Lebepe, and while we are waiting would it not be nice to hear from MTN and Nashua Mobile..

  • Wayne3 2 May 2011, 07:12 AM

Latest update is the CEO - Mr Botha Lebepe - has responded on email and promised answers by 11:00 today. Let us see if they can live up to their values and mission that they publish on their website. I have requested that they are transparent and give a full explanation.

  • Terry11 1 May 2011, 07:44 PM

MTN and Autopage should offer us some protection or its byebye to them when my contract comes up for renewal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wayne3 1 May 2011, 07:10 PM

Do not let yourself be a victim! I want full refund with costs and all comapnies involved to be fined with benefits going to a charity! Remember there will be thousands that do not have a voice who will just lose their money and never get anything back! They will start with a once off but before you look again they can be charging you R20/day forcing you to close your account. For all of them R5 a week from 1 000 000 subscribers - that is money they like to keep!

  • Wayne3 1 May 2011, 07:10 PM

Please all first get stopped - phone 0861876566 and request they stop and process a refund - do not agree to saying you subscribed and do not hold your breath for the refund - DO NOT GIVE ADDITIONAL PRIVATE DETAILS. Remember their calls are not recorded. Then sms stop to 37459 - pay attention to confirmation sms saying they will continue to rip you off as they want and when they want. Then sms Mr. Botha Lebepe - CEO asking about your refund - follow this up with an email to him at - or visit his facebook profile at and leave a comment asking the same there. From tomorrow we can start with the other management of TMobileSA and maybe also get some contact details for MTN and Autopage. I also suggest using this a reason to cancel MTN/Autopage contracts as breach of terms. If we can get a lawyer to advise what protection we have under Consumer Acts we should do this from Tuesday.

  • Tosin Oyekanmi 1 May 2011, 06:50 PM

Its a relief to know that I am not the only one who got this sms. I was quite shocked as I do not subscribe to anything on my phone knowing how dubious these tele-markets are sometimes! I call MTN but all I got was the automated machine and it kept pushing me around by "pressing this and pressing that". I even went into an MTN store and they could not help either. We should not take this lying down as it seems as if MTN customers are being targeted. R5 in 5million places is a lot of money and if not care, we may end up paying this every single month!

  • Wayne3 1 May 2011, 06:42 PM

Latest information:- Can confirm that Wirels is in fact now processing cancellations - just spoke to the lady on 086 187 6566. She states that "she confirms she can see you subscribed and I have no cancelled your subscription" basically she says the system will send you a cancellation confirmation is about 3-4 hours due to the high volumes they processing. When asked about the refund she says she you have to provide all your personal details including contract details so they can investigate. When asking what she does with this information she states "captures them for the marketing department". When I refused to provide she says she will inform her supervisor to process the refund but takes down no details - so I do not see any refund coming my way out this process. I am still waiting for my sms as Yunus did. Another methind is to sms "stop" to 37459 - again you get a confirmation but told T&C's apply - which means that they will not guarantee stop for next 10 days and if you "subscribe" again you start again!

  • Wayne3 1 May 2011, 06:21 PM

Ok - this is the founder and current CEO of TMobileSA - maybe he can answer our requests for a refund and explanation of the criminal activities of his company? • Tertius2 1 May 2011, 05:46 PM

Me too... Same story. We are all MTN subscribers. Come on MTN get your "official" partner (according to MTN's website) to book on this.

  • Wayne3 1 May 2011, 05:12 PM

Some interesting background and facts - Indead they are protected as criminals! A Rand from every South African just once! Sounds like MTN, Autopage and TMobileSA tried it over the Easter weekend. Vote with your feet - take you business away from all of these and their customers!

  • Wayne3 1 May 2011, 04:54 PM

More posts can be found on the internet - just search MTN inspirational quote sms and pick-up the complaints!

If you want to speak to the man who has your R5 and knows how he got your details then here it is. He does not seem to helpful but did tell me he has important "family" at MTN and Autopage. Do not forget to ask him why you never received your "quote" he says you subscribed to?  If you look at his website you can also get his customers he brags about. Maybe they should also be put out of business for supporting a criminal. The values and news articles tell you his view if business ethics - our money is his and he is protected by the system! Http:// Give him a call on his cell and ask him if he is spending your money! Or drop him an email. Maybe we should go visit his address! • Andrew 1 May 2011, 01:58 PM

I have experienced the same - on all three of my cell phone numbers, all contract numbers. I find it strange that I have not received a similar sms on my pre-paid number - Just shows that they are targeting the CONTRACT users!!! Not enough that they are ripping us off, I think they should be mandated to pay a fine of R1 million rand to a charity for this! How many others are not going to take action? And how much time and money is it costing each of us? This is unacceptable!!!

  • Manny 1 May 2011, 12:38 PM

I have a contact at MTN that tells me that MTN has sold all the MTN phone numbers to T-mobiles for direct marketing. T-mobiles has debited every phone number with R5. The problem was, therefore, started by MTN who should rectify the whole mess. I do believe that Autopage was also involved in it somehow. I think that it is time for us to show some resistance and start to boikot MTN and Autopage if they do not rectify this mess soon.

  • Sharon21 1 May 2011, 12:27 PM

I also got sms this morning. I phoned TMobiles and spoke to lady by the name of Dumisile who gave me a reference number, says I have been "unsubscribed" and that my money will be refunded on Tuesday. "They" whoever they are will have had all these R5 in their bank account for about 3 days and even if they refund all of it, who get's the interest it earned during that time?

  • Johan76 1 May 2011, 11:58 AM

I have been to the Police, the Constable on duty could not assist. He suggested speaking to a Detective. I have an appointment for Tuesday. The problem is it is costing us much more than the R5 deducted to just try and stop it. All the calls, internet time, petrol adds up to a lot.

  • Mandie 1 May 2011, 11:47 AM

I received a similar sms this morning. I'm very upset that someone can just steal R5 from my account. Even more upset that I don't know how to put a stop to this. So I'm being charged R5 for a service I never requested (nor have I received a single "inspirational quote") and now I have to go through some effort to reverse the charges and prevent it from happening again. I really don't have time for nonsense like this. I've got a contract with Autopage.

  • Gert6 1 May 2011, 11:26 AM

Happened to me today. Phoned MTN and they said that they would forward my number on to the billing department so that the charge cane be reversed. Sounds like it is a serious problem because they're maintaining a spreadsheet of all the numbers impacted. If they don't sort it out they lose me as a customer - no time to play games. To all those already affected, don't despair. You do not need to tolerate this. Be firm with your dealings with MTN and use the Consumer Protection Act. This activity is illegal and is blatant fraud!

  • Wayne3 1 May 2011, 11:18 AM

Tommy - did they say how much they deducted and why if you did not subscribe? Did they say when they will reimburse you? What about your calls to MTN and them? And your time?

  • Tommy3 1 May 2011, 10:54 AM

I have phoned mtn service provider in durban 083173. Got the number for TMobiles from them and was informed if I phone this number it will be a chargeable call. Phoned TMobiles and wanted to know from them when did I subscribe to this. Was in formed by a lady with the name of Portia that I never did subscribe to this. The number for TMobiles is 0861876566. Got a reference number from TMobiles that they will reimburse me.

  • luthando 1 May 2011, 10:47 AM

I think we shoud lay a complaint with the police this is a crime and someone is getting away with it.This is equal to someone accessing you bank account and stealing money from it. Surely MTN should question their decision not to get involved and try and protect their customers also to protect their good reputation if they have any! This is what happens when you have collusion in these service providers. It's possible that tmobiles belongs to a relative to an executive of one of the cell companies and hence the decision not to get involved,I just want my damn R5 back!

  • Wayne3 1 May 2011, 10:35 AM is the site of regulatory body - do a search on complaints to understand the full extent of legalized theft! But you can lodge a complaint as well. A Carte Blanche expose would be good and I would share my frustrations and experiences over the years. Does anybody have a contact rather than the web form? Also MTN must be held accountable!

  • Wayne3 1 May 2011, 10:28 AM

Ok -so MTN is Ayoba and says sorry for you but they cannot assist that you must speak to TMobile. However they do get cute and say if you use their MTNLoaded platform for subscriptions you get a better service and they will help. The fact that I am not interested in subscription services does not deter them to try make a new sale! When I challenged them why it is only MTN customers they say it could happen on any network and actually agree that thousands of MTN customers were charged the R5 and that they will continue to be charged until stopped. They do deny providing the company with phone numbers but offer no assistance. The number provided by Autopage does in fact get you through to Wireless and the lady is helpful in taking down details. But she cannot confirm they are the source of the TMobile Inspirational Quote service, if you are subscribed on their charge database, or that if you are a stop or refund in fact will be processed. All she is doing is making a list and will refer it to Technical, or the next person on shift. So far she has had no response from Technical or contacted management. She also confirms they are in no way related to TMobile! Sounds very suspect to me! So at present I have no confidence that anything is been done or that we will not be charged further. The chances of a refund are unlikely and certainly will not be in the short term unless MTN steps in.

  • Wayne3 1 May 2011, 10:26 AM

So once again there is no protection of the consumer and the criminals are protected. Would be interested in knowing consequential costs - cost of SMS notifying all, phone calls queering, Internet costs on posts, people costs on query, time wasted trying to get help. MTN could avoid all this by cutting off company causing, reversing charge file, and sending out apology SMS to all! But MTN is Ayoba and smiling all the way to the Bank! While all say they helping you as soon as you ask them what exactly they will guarantee and if they will confirm in writing you realize they only doing best effort and listening without any real commitment! By the way - has anybody even received their inspirational quote paid for? Can anybody also confirm actual charge to their account? Autopage says charge might only appear at a layer date due to volumes - I have had charges come through 6 month after the fact with Autopage!

  • Nicole JHB 1 May 2011, 10:19 AM

Same story with me! Please search & read complaints for 'T Mobile SA'. I find it hard to believe that this has been going on for a year now with no legal ramifications for T Mobile SA and especially MTN! This needs to be exposed in the media and the money refunded. It cannot be this easy for criminals to scam unsuspecting people - and nothing be done about it for a year! Pressure needs to be placed on MTN as this is directly linked to poor customer service and large corporate disinterest. Where is the 'Big Corporate Giant' who is willing to fight for their 'valued' customers' best interests? By taking the attitude of 'this is not our responsibility' - MTN is surrounding themselves with suspicion and cultivating a massive negative media outcry which can severely tarnish their reputation. A minor investigation by their legal department would solve all of this - instead of hundreds of thousands of confused customers fighting in vain for their R5.00! T Mobile is taking advantage of the fact that it is extremely difficult for isolated customers to take combined action. And where is the media? Surely there's an accolade-hungry journalist waiting for an opportunity like this to investigate and expose?

  • Barry 1 May 2011, 09:58 AM

I have the same problem, on Autopage. Haven't been able to get hold of them, lines too full, have requested help from the website form. Has anyone else had any joy from Autopage?, it is strange that different people are getting different responses from Autopage, some get help, others say Autopage can't help.
