Hi fellow South Africans
I am a self-supporting student. It happened that I needed a cheap camera for my multimedia course. Then I bumped into an OLX advert - A guy called Martin selling Canon EOS 700d for R4000 located in Midrand. I contacted the seller on this number 0736729873. So he said I should sms my e-mail so we can start with the order. Well he sent a description of his company from the e-mail address (email@example.com) 32 Scott Street, Upington. Cell number: 0710463743, Cipro number (2013/055915/07). The name was John Luar from this e-mail. The second e-mail was from the same e-mail address but was sent by Martin Lona. He said the delivery will be done by DHL or FedEx once the payment has been confirmed the company and the company is based in 28 Parliament Street, Port Elizabeth. But it seemed too good to be true but he said I should be rest assured that I am working with the legitimate, registered company in S.A. Here is the cipro/company registration number 2001/019907/07. I agreed to make a deposit since I saw that “African Dawn Trading” exists. He drafted a fake invoice. It writes “African Dawn Trading”, my address and the account number the money should be deposited in. ABSA, Account number: 9290498739, Account Holder: JN Mnisi). I deposited R4350 (R4000 for camera, & R350 for FedEx delivery). The proof of payment should be faxed to 086 568 0195. I did as instructed. The next day I got an e-mail stating that my package was held for Import duty by customs an hour ago which will cost you R2,150 and should be deposited into the same account. That’s when I knew I was scammed. I went to P.E to see if the company exists, guess what – there’s a salon, next to it is a food market called “African Meat”. I haven’t opened a case. My God will deal with him and I will raise money to buy a new camera. Devil is a liar. He does not only sell cameras, but also other electronics and has several account numbers. Even if they are convincing, do not make any deposit. Instead report it. Please guys.
