The Incident

Hi there,

Yesterday 2nd Feb 2010,  I was on my way to work when I passed a man dragging this poor beast with a piece of leather around her neck. Needless to say I stopped and managed to get the dog away from him. She is a soft natured creature who has endured 6 /7 years of hell and really needs a loving home.

I took her to the Pinelands Veterinary clinic as the Vet there is the deputy head of the Animal Anti-cruelty league. He said that she would probably need to be euthanize.

I had thought as much and was sad at the idea but understood that it may be the best thing for her. The kind vet said he would let me know what AACL decided. Anyway this morning I was driving along wondering what would have become of her when the vet called to say that they will try to rehabilitate her… YIPPEE

I am going to make a plan and visit over the weekend and take her some yummy food…now the thing is if she makes it and I am sending out positive energy that she does…she will need a loving home…

Please put feelers out and let me know if anyone is able to help!

Sad Updates:

Hello to you all,

I am sorry to be the bearer of bed news…Maggie has terrible hip-displasure. I thought this may be the case when I visited her last week. Unfortunately she battle to walk and is in great pain. Maggie was sent for X-Rays this Thursday which confirmed our fears. She was immediately put on tablets for the pain. I know about these (German Sheppard experience), they with long term use will cause kidney failure etc…not a good future for any beautiful being…

So with the Advice of June Woodman, the head of the Animal Welfare Society, I made the decision to let her be laid to rest. It will take place this afternoon after dinner and Gotfrey and Alicia will be with her. I could not go as I am useless at saying goodbye and would be a nightmare for the staff at AWS to deal with – their job is hard enough as it is.

Please will you circulate this email so that everyone who has been so kind and responded to her plea for help will be in the know.

I wish you all a safe and restful weekend. It has been wonderful to meet so many animal lovers…I though I was the only animal nut.

Take care,

Bridget

Hi Bridget, Please dont give up on the Rotweiler. I found THE EXACT SAME situation with a boerbull and he was 100% reabilitated. Scooby was 3 days away from death resulting from starvation and he is now a wonderful happy beautiful boy. The Rottie was obviously stolen and starved. It can take as little as 6 months of starving for the dog to look like that. She will recover quickly, but needs a drip and chicken livers and rice (you can get them mixed already at the Spar in these frozen packs for dogs.) Scooby could nolonger stand on his legs and collapsed from starvation. Dont give up if her spirit revives she will get better and bounce back. They are amazingly resiliant & the body will absorb all the needed nutrients quickly. Well done for the brave act of rescuing an innocent animal.

Hi there, Bridget here, Maggie (the name I have given her) is doing well - thank you to all of you for your messages... Maggie is currently being rehabilitated at the Phillippi (spelling?) SPCA. I am going to visit her in the morning and take her some chicken breasts. She had gained 2 kilos on Wednesday and is looking better already. I was lucky, after I had stopped the can and put hazard lights on I got out and was waving my arms in the air while shouting at the man - to attract attention, two cops stopped (without me knowing) when I turned arround there was one standing behind me. I had wonderered why he was being so passive. Will send updates next week. Take care and be safe, Bridget

Bridget, thank you from the bottom of my heart for rescuing Maggie. Her picture shocked me to my core and I could not stop the tears for what had been done to her! I am glad she is picking up weight and is doing well. Please keep us posted on her progress. She will be a special addition to any family adopting her. Thank you again!!!!

In my opinion no animal should be 'transfered', sold or be a gift unless it has been 'fixed' to ensure that there is no breeding and also a price on buying or selling should be so high that only those who know how to care for animals can afford them.

Bridget, I know it serves as no comfort, but at least you can rest with a peaceful mind knowing in her last days she was not in pain, had a full tummy and was probably loved more than she had ever been in her six years of existence. Wish there were more people like you that don't always turn a blind eye to the cruelty taking place every day.

May God open the mouths of animals!Num 22:28 And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way. ...... and he smote her again.(27) And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down....: and .. anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.AND THE LORD OPENED THE MOUTH OF THE ASS, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?......: unless she had turnedfrom me, SURELY NOW ALSO I HAD SLAIN THEE, AND SAVED HER LIVE....

Thank God for people like you Bridget, and thank you for stopping and rescuing Maggie in the first place. I can only hope and pray that the man pulling her along was instantly hit by a car and left in a ditch to die a slow and painful death. And even that is too good for him and every other person who lifts a hand to our beautiful animals.

People like that deserve to be shot. If I could take the law into my hands I would drag that bastard behind my car to show him what it feels like!!! The petition is a great idea and It would be great if the government had harsh penalties for the dog fighting in the townships too!!! these cruel devils must be punished!!!!

I am still hoping that these helpless beings will get one day their rights! It is not fair that certain humans are so cruel and acting like they, in fact, are: beasts! Stop, for God Sake this killings and tortures! I hope that one day these animals will have the power to do you what you did tio them! Amen!
