    Kyle Smith
    9:57 AM (1 hour ago)

I am really interested in buying this for my cousin as a surprise for him, only if you can assure me that everything is in order, I am a petroleum engineer currently on a rig offshore I really want this to be a surprise for my cousin so I won't let him know anything about this until it gets delivered to him, I am sure he will be more than happy with it.It will be secured paying via PayFast as I'm on a rig offshore. So let me know if you have an account with Payfast so I can make the payment. Note well: Pick up agent will come for the pick up as soon as I have made the payments.

  • Keagz 4 Dec 2016, 12:03 AM

I almost fell victim to this asshole....
I have a fish tank advertised on Gumtree and he emailed me about purchsing by means of payfast, he gave a hole story about working offshore on a oil rig and how he wants to surprise his cousin, luckily before going further i asked a colleague of mine if she thinks that that is a safe way to sell my tank and then she found this website. I cant believe people would actually go around by scamming other people. Absolutely disgusting...

Sadly I have been notified of this scam. My ID is being used illegally and without my knowledge. I do not know Kyle Smith and I am not his Agent. Im completely devastated that this guy is using my name and ID like this. Its difficult for me to face such defamation! If anyone has any leads to this crime please inform me.

  • ConcernedMom 14 Sep 2016, 09:45 PM

Kyle Smith is still at it. He is still looking to surprise his cousin in Kempton Park....has changed his email address to hopehart01....and now is using NETELLER instead of PAYFAST. My son is trying to sell his computer. Surely OLX, gumtree etc must know about this thief? He also sent copy of an ID....initially I googled just his name, it was only when I googled Kyle Smith Kempton Park did I see just how many people he has tried to scam.
This guy must be stopped - my son is devastated.

  • Lenaze 4 Sep 2016, 11:33 AM

This same person tried to scam me.
I sent him a final email and haven't had a response since ...

    Good day Kyle,

I would like to thank you for the entertainment you have provided over the past few days.
The fact that I never created a Payfast account yet received funds in, was most remarkable. I want 5 of these accounts.
I even received email confirmation from Payfast with official logos and atrocious English confirming payment.
The transport cost of R1550 of a large bar counter and extras from Cape Town to the Free State was a bargain. How did you wish to achieve this, horse and carriage?
Oh and your ID doesn't suit you, are you sure it's yours?
As for your poor English and forceful responses to emails, one can only assume that you are not very skilled in the English language (even with such an English alias) and that you are new at such scams.
Perhaps you should concentrate on finishing your schooling and getting a real job.

    Good Luck "Dumbass"

  • tonib12 17 Jul 2016, 06:55 PM

Gosh lucky I did a google search as I have just had the same thing happen to me and I did think the story was a little far fetched along the name Kyle Smith. I got the exact same email as all of you and got told to register with PayFast which immediately warned me about scammers.

Will also report to OLX, thanks all for sharing

  • Gosia 3 Jul 2016, 11:03 PM

same story here, what can be done to stop this?
Mails from alwaysgoodn1@gmail.com under name Kyle Smith:
I am really interested in buying this for my cousin as a surprise for him, only if you can assure me that everything is in order, I am a petroleum engineer currently on a rig offshore I really want this to be a surprise for my cousin so I won't let him know anything about this until it gets delivered to him, I am sure he will be more than happy with it.It will be secured paying via PayFast as I'm on a rig offshore. So let me know if you have an account with Payfast so I can make the payment.
Note well: Pick up agent will come for the pick up as soon as I have made the payments, I would have loved to talk to you on the phone but I work mainly offshore, our phone is down on the rig right now due to the inclement weather, and we can only communicate with our base for now. Thanks
and than, as I doubt about payfast:
Payfast is a secured mode of payment which they protect every transaction done by them and you can quickly set up an account with them just click this link https://www.payfast.co.za/user/register and click next then choose An individual account. Note, in the general information they will ask you How will you use PayFast? Don't forget to select the second option that says ( To request payment for services rendered ). I advise you to choose the second option because there are no charges for paying out to the seller's bank account. The option (2) is %100 percent free. Kindly register with Payfast now and follow the instruction given so that I can make the payment now.
and as I refused to register to payfast, and asked him to pay EFT to my bank account:
Yes, I will, but you have to register with Payfast first, and I will be responsible for the Payfast admin fee okay. Just follow the link I gave to you and register with PayFast, it's safe and secure for both of us. I will wait to hear from you soon.

thank you all for sharing your stories, it saved me! just what else can be done to STOP this?

  • jdl777 29 Jun 2016, 03:41 PM

Same guy (Kyle Smith) with same email (alwaysgoodn1@gmail.com) tried buying expensive UPS from me. Obviously his real name is not Kyle Smith, as he emailed me a copy of this ID and even use it as his profile pic on gmail. So no point in trying to find "Kyle Smith" as his ID was most probably copied.
He even send me ID of his agent Tongai Furusa with Cell-C 0623363049 whom I called. He is SA citizen, born in Zimbabwe. Who he realy is, I don't know, but obviously involved, although email conversations shown "Kyle" to be someone with much better English.
He wanted me to pay transport cost of R1450 (which would be added to purchase price) at Checkers Money Market. Wanted to do payments to me through PayFast, which will be available only after I give proof of payment.
    Long Story short:
    1) Never ever pay first and hope to receive it back. Cash at delivery if you can
    2) Run Google search on their emails and names with "scam" keyword and see what pops up
    3) Look for info that does not make sense and question it

  • kopbowater 28 Jun 2016, 04:34 PM

What you do is you package a box with dog poo or any other vile garbage and you let the courier collect it.

  • San-Mari 25 May 2016, 10:16 AM

Low and behold, this airhead wanted to buy my wall unit I posted on OLX. This was his email to me:
Thanks for the response, I am really interested buying this for my cousin as a surprise for him, only if you can assure me that everything is in order, I am a petroleum engineer currently on a rig offshore I really want this to be a surprise for my cousin so I won't let him know anything about this until it gets delivered to him, I am sure he will be more than happy with it.It will be secured paying via Payfast as I'm on a rig offshore. So let me know if you have an account with payfast so I can make the payment.

I have now reported him to OLX. Luckily I smelled the scamster. Thanks for making us aware.

Can we not insert a tracker into a package and find them?

  • Peter555 4 May 2016, 12:35 PM

Nearly posted a tablet to this scum bag this morning, but noticed the alleged confirmation of deposit email from FNB was in fact from fundsec@safrica.com. If there's a physical address, cant all of us get together to demand action from SAPS?

  • Lee001 4 May 2016, 10:30 AM

This guy has just messaged me to send him the item I advertised on Gumtree. Reported the email to PayPal. Sonja, if you require anything, please let me know here.

  • SPowell 3 May 2016, 03:17 PM

"Matthew" just tried to buy something from me too, thankfully
i found your post before gong through with anything.
The address seems to point to a small centre with couple of panelbeater type places. Someone should go take a look, preferably with a cop or two.

  • Sonja0228 29 Apr 2016, 09:29 AM

It looks like paypal but it is not. If you select details you will see that it is not from paypal. He only set the display name to be service@paypal.com

  • Bash_Man 29 Apr 2016, 06:16 AM

Hi. I am curently in the process of a sale transaction of R5300 with Matthew Raymond using email address matthewgd045@gmail.com. I received what appears to be legimate paypal emails confirming that the said amount has been transferred to me but will only reflect once I issued a tracking id. I suspected something was off and started to google the details etc and fortunately stumbled upon this site. So as it stands currently, this criminal is unaware that I have caught on and is contact with me trying to ensure I deliver the items to the very same address supposedly to his son
    Patrick Godwin
    Address - 24 Langenhoven st,
    Kempton park
    Johannesburg, 1619
    +27788496912

I haven't responded as yet and obviously my paypal account doesn't reflect anything.

Any advice on how to proceed to catch this inhuman criminal???

    Thank You
    Sebastian

Hi James... It just disgusts me!! We are hard working people that earn our money the honest way...

His day will come. I actually think that it may be a group of people and not just a solo...

I live 500km away, but I am also currently working with investigators to help us catch this asshole!

  • jamesoliver 21 Apr 2016, 06:55 PM

Hello Sonja, exactly the same happened to me this Matt character bought a collection of watches from me and also paid through what look legitimately like Paypal and once it was delivered to "his son" at Langenhoven 24, supposedly the courier package was empty. I have reported him to Gumtree, Paypal and laying a charge of fraud against him at the SAPS. According to Courerit this is now a known scam in Johannesburg.

  • ridusofcrime 20 Apr 2016, 01:06 PM

Sorry to hear all the sad stories. One way of avoiding being scammed is to make sure the money is actually in your bank account BEFORE parting with goods. Don't accept a Proof of Payment. It can be forged.

  • marselleb 20 Apr 2016, 09:55 AM

He prevered dhl but i used Sky Net as this is the only courier available where i live. i did report it to OLX and Pay Pal. I will take it up with Sky Net again to get info of final delivery address of the package. The package was delivered to an address and signed for. Good luck

  • Sonja0228 20 Apr 2016, 08:21 AM

You should report the user with the email address to OLX so they can remove the user.

What courier company did he request?

  • marselleb 19 Apr 2016, 10:48 PM

Also happened in the past few days. Package was delivered yesterday

  • marselleb 19 Apr 2016, 10:46 PM

I'm having the same problem with the same details given by you. Contacted me regarding the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 I advertised on OLX of wich I was scammed out by him. This person needs to be found asap.
