So we advetised a car for sale on Gumtree. We were approached by "Ronnie" who says he has a friend who is looking for a car for his wife. We sent him pictures of my car via WhatsApp. Shortly thereafter "John" called. Highly impressed by the condition of my car. Says he is a truck driver from Namibia and lives in Swakopmund. He is here in PE via Cape Town and has to load something at the PE harbour. He is a serious car buyer he says. He spoke immaculate Afrikaans. He will pay now but we must keep the car for week when he will come back to PE and collect it. In the meantime he wants to pay - cash. We met with him. John asked that we take him to a friend who has his money. Turns out it is a diamond deal. We were caught in the middle of this nightmare of a diamond/money exchange which went wrong. A white male (Jonathan) pitched with a bag of money which wasn't enough and then "Pablo" the seller pitched and it turned into a verbal brawl. Pablo demanded security for this deal and then we clicked that they were trying to scam us into getting R100K out of us. All we wanted to do was sell our car. We are ordinary, honest people and were caught in this nightmare.
Beware of these people. We have now learnt that they have been active in PE for many months.
