I also received an sms stating that I have won R250000 in a Nokia Promotion. When I called the number from my office phone, I was told to call back as the number is registered private and I must use my cell number for them to verify then when I called on my cell number they told me to call back in 10 minutes, that is when I googled this whole thing. Thanks for sharing.

Same happened to me this morning. I did not respond I just deleted it. The government must ban all these SMS's. I mean all sms competition. And this must be a daily bread it must be warned to all SA citizens of this country. I am sick and tired of these guys who take us for granted,

I received this aswell, from number 071 414 1890 ,telling me to call 071 099 7103 at 15:10 21/11/2011. I didn't bother calling the number for such an obvious and idiotic scam.

Just received the same sms, saying I have won R950000, so took a chance and called, someone that sounds like a man called himself Sandra asked for ref and then said we must phone back in 5 minutes. Had a feeling it was a scam so looked up on google. Obviously this Rica story is a waste of time and energy as it seems like these f@ckers are getting away with it... The number they used was 0783728454.

  • Fhillip 21 Nov 2011, 01:17 PM

Same thing happened to me today. Same messages as you guys got. Luckily I also googled it first! My question is, what exactly did we have to RICA for if these criminals are still using their cellphones to commit these crimes? Eversince I RICA'd my phone's been ringing non stop with agents trying to sell "garbage" to me! What was the actual point to RICA then?

I received sms stating the same for amount of R175000 with ticket number and contact name and number. i was very curious so I called the number this monring and female named Sandra answered and told me i won same amount as the sms, told me it's a once a year once a month Nokia Yearly Promotion. I asked her what company she said htey are a call centre for the Nokia promotion, I asked her if I call Nokia to verify this can they and she answered yes if I want to I can call them. I continued the call so I can catch that this is a scam as it sounded like it. She told me they can either deposit into my account or wright me a cheque, I chose cheque then she told me i need to buy R275 airtime and call them and they will give me a password then their bank would call me for details to send my cheque to. 2 questions she failed to answer was waht if i'm a contractor, she told I would still nee to buy airtime in order for them to activate the password for payment. The 2nd one was how would they know I bought the airtime and she told the system will know, but could not answer when I asked how would they know it's airtime for R275 and not R30 and whether I have loaded it or not...she immediately put me on hold as I kept on asking same question I was not getting an answer to, she never came back to me until the phone cut off. It's a Sandra on 0847555720
