I received an SMS this morning 25 June 2012 from 0812763305 : congratulation it's our pleasure to notify you that your number has won R550,000 from our RICA 2012 yearly promotion REF (####) contact 0738868984. I phoned the number and have spoken to a lady called Linda Zwane claiming to be at cape town in Bellville offices close to police station. He also said that I must send 300 airtym from Cell c so that my price will be activated! than my respond was easy, from that 250-000 that i have won myself, they must substrat R300 air and the rest which is the amount of 249700 must be emailed to me as cheque.

My hubbie recd a sms last wk claiming that he won R250 000 and that he must call Rose Mbuli on 073 037 7421 to claim. I called her and was told to sms my bank details. I asked for an e-mail to be sent to me with more details. On Saturday hubbie got a call to say thank you for the sms and that the accounts dept will be in contact today. This morning he gets a sms to contact Mr Botha on 071 126 8352. When I called the nr and asked to speak to mr Botha a black guy answered and didn't put me through to mr Botha. I then asked for a landline nr and that was sms'd to my hubby together with an e-mail address Ricapromo2012@safrica.com! I called the landline nr 021 8381855 and enquired where their offices are & was asked where I'm at. Lady, Nomsa Mbatha, then advised will I come to Simons Town. I said yes, give me the address. Then she said no their offices are in 44 Loop Street, CPT but I must make the payment of the R1850 urgently so they can payout the monies! I said I'm not comfortable & want to spk to someone be4 I trsf any monies. She got sort of uptight and said I must pay as they need to payout this wk. I'm still waiting for my e-mail!! Ppl watch out, this is a scam!!

Besides receiving the same type of text from 0812130283 and prompting to call 0719365159 and actually reporting a crime I would like to know where can we check up if anything is being done about it. I also contacted MTN as the service provider to ask them to do their share to protect the public. RICA is in place to enable the quick tracking of such cyber criminals. Now we want to see if it is effective.

This is crazy,a while back i received a sms stating i won from Nokia, i then called Nokia to find out what is going on and they confirmed it was a scam. Someone i know actually went through with given banking details and at the end of that month she was cleaned out by these people. Hi, mny daugther also received a sms that her no win R250.000.00 Ref no (93RP) contact Mr, Vin on 0713839917 offfice no 021 839 2798. She said to them that this wasn't legit they went so far as sending a Certificate with a lot of spelling mistakes.
They also sent her a bank account no where she must deposit the Transfer fees. Its a Private bank no and in the name of the Agent.

I'm afraid the Rica Promo Scam is continuing this year. My family has just been "robbed" R110 in order to activate the so-called reference number! This is followed by an sms to send R1875 or so as insurance to Speedmail Courier to deliver the R250 000 cheque we have supposedly won. The operation seems to be conducted from Cape Town. The prominent name, for the cell number - 079 and the landlines - 0218271671 and 021 827 0896 - is Melanie who is reportedly a RICA representative.

I asked for her landline number and she killed the call. When they could not scam me of my airtime, they then asked to deposit an amount of R2650 in the following FNB Acc A. Maphike , Acc No.62409375616 as it would pay for the courier to deliver my cheque of R350 000, the stupids' even gave me a fax no. to send proof of deposit 086 591 0795 .. !!!!
My reference was 00350 RSA
Somebody must be able to stop this KAK !!
