Another incidence of the RICA YEARLY PROMOTION SCAM... I checked on this site before responding to it and it's been reported by others already... but someone out there is still trying it on...cellphone message says You have won R195 000 (I wish!) in the annual Rica Yearly Promotion. Ring Portia 083 315 3854 to claim . bla bla bla.

Had the same sms.They actually require you to buy a vodacom airtime voucher of R110, sms the voucher nr through to them with your postal address to send the prize to. What a joke!

Had the same sms claiming i have won R250 000.00 and a laptop in rica yearly promotion. I phoned Mr Benson on 0812639613. He said to sms my name and adress and he will send a cheque for that amount and the laptop.

I received a sms this morning.Claiming i won R200,000 in a yearly Rica Promotion.ref#R0227.Wow! what a birthday present it thought.I phoned the guy,Mr. Paul Greene(011 0711 924),who confirmed that i won,but need to first purchase 3 x Vodacom Airtime vouchers,valued at R275 each.How many people have been fooled.Please people,DO NOT GIVE ANY DETAILS!!!!

My poor domestic was scammed with this Rica promo. I tried to warn her but she was convinced that it was true. She called Benson on0812639613 and he told her she needed to buy R200 telkom airtime which she obediently did....not taking heed of my warnings. She then gave him the pin code and he said the cheque would be posted. He then called her this morning and said they need her to deposit R2500 for administration fees then they'll release the money. Thank God she finally realised that he was scamming her. How many people is he doing this to....so sad that he is succeeding with those who are most vulnerable

I called the number and the guy said i should register my ticket number by buying R180.00 MTN Airtime. i told him but i use a Cell c number where i also received my message on. he said yes we know but u need to register this number with R180.00 MTN airtime.
I took his details and sai i will be checking to see if this is a gimmick:

i received an sms on the 11/01/2013 stating i have won 450 000 plus a laptop. i phoned then the guy who anwsers tells me i must phne back 5 minutes late, i phne back he tell me to buy R200 telkom voucher to activate my ref number UK 72. please people be warned, nobody gives that kind of cash away without proper advertising.

and give my reference no.I knew in my heart that it is a scam.
I received the sms on 14Jan.2013 but only phoned 22Jan.
Just by the conv. i knew scam.However they pretend to verify your ref and phone no.Ask you how you want your winnings.You must then sms back to them to confirm.After that you receive an sms saying you must dep.R950.00 for insurance and del. charges.
If we have cell no of these hoax people why cant they be tracked down by the law.

I received an sms today that says South African RICA act has won you R450.000.00 from your Sim registration call Mrs Sharon on 0784723412 for payment ref ricasa33v.8.30am-5.30pm,i called this lady then she said do i prefer to be send the money through account or cheque,then i said cheque,then she said i must sms my details and physical adress so that they can courier the cheque,unfortunately i did not give her any information.

received one as well saying i had won R200,000 - plse call Mr Paul Greene (011)0711924 - i called as i knew this was a scam but wanted to know how he got my cell. he asked me how i would like to receive my winnings so i said by Post cos there is no way you getting my banking details. I gave him an incorrect postal address - said i would reciev my cheque in 24hrs - NOW that's a first in SA that postal service in 24hrs - he then wanted me to tale the ref and verify details , so i told him HMMMMMMM - he says you don't trust me and cut the call. I called him back to tell him i had reported him & he didnt seemed to be to phased - did he think i was stupid enough to let him have my banking details, just how do these people get hold of your cell number.
