Women shot and wounded in hijacking

A woman was shot and seriously wounded in a botched hijacking at the intersection of Sydenham and Cowey roads in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said on Tuesday.

The woman was stopped at a robot when a man approached her window on Monday night.

"The man attempted to smash the window and when he couldn't, he fired a single shot through the glass striking the woman in the back," said Netcare 911 spokesman Jeff Wicks.

The man pushed the woman out of the car.

"[He] was unable to start the vehicle and fled on foot. A doctor witnessed the shooting and rushed to the woman's aid," Wicks said.

Paramedics found the woman in a serious condition. She was taken to hospital.
