Selling parrots (macaws)

On the 5 August 2012 I saw an advert in the junk mail (KZN Region) for blue and gold macaws.I respond to this ad and me and the owner agree that I can pay half the money into his bank account at FNB and the rest when I received the birds. We make use of internet banking and transferred R2500 into this people FNB account. The next morning (Monday) the guy sms me and said seeing that we use Nedbank he cant draw the money now to send me the birds I must pay the rest of the money into his FNB account. On the slip that I got from the bank, the account was in the name of a Mr Olutunde C Olajede. I went to the banks (Nedbank and FNB) and they said they could not stop the money because it already went through. I went to the police in Richards Bay and they say they cannot do anything because many people got caught like this daily? I did it and up to now, he is full of excuses why he did not send me the birds as yet. On Friday, he sms me and say his wife is not happy because of him selling the birds and he will speak to het again and come back to me but nothing yet. All of a sudden, he is staying in Bloemfontein now. His phone numbers 0717211496 / 0786349715 and his name is according to the email he send me Ben Eta (etaben40@yahoo.com. The address he gave me was 60 Eddie de Beer Bloemfontein and that address does not exist. I lost R4500 because of this fraud. The price was suppose to include delivery to my door and then Skynet pet relocators emailed me requesting me to pay another R6840 insurance before they can deliver the birds to me. I refused to pay a cent more. The phone numbers they gave me 0514444321 is the Protea Hotel in Bloemfontein and the other number they gave me 051 4094600 does not exist and the URGENT HOT LINE 24H number 0731916570 and 0725472532 does not give you an option to leave a message. On Thursday he said he will talk to his wife again otherwise he will give me my money back I gave him my PO Box number so he can send my money back using postal orders because I will not give him my banking details. I have not heard from him ever since. When I phone him this morning he just put the phone down in my ear. Another scam on Friday I saw this advert of baby macaws and I respond to it and this guy ALSO from Bloemfontein although the ad stated Durban made the same promises as the other one that the price of R2500 includes all the vet papers, cage, toys and delivery to my address in Richards Bay. Then all of a sudden, he wanted me to pay R1000 to the delivery service so that they can deliver the bird to me and when I refused to do it he got angry with me. His name is Stephen Alan (stephen_alan@ymail.com) the address he gave me is 4c Louis Botha St Waverley Bloemfontein and the cell no 0736076365. When I asked him why don’t he pay the R1000 he said he don’t have money so I told him he must keep his bird I wont pay a cent for something I don’t have! It's funny how all this ads was advertised in Durban but when you respond to it the people are in Bloemfontein? There was also this ad Friday Jamie Zimmer [jamiezimmer523@hotmail.com] advertising Baby Capuchin Monkeys for R1500 each and the advert was in Richards Bay but when i respond to the ad they were from Springbok in the Northern Cape. And the story was the same: "The monkeys will come alongside all their necessary documents, play toys, cloths and also their delivery cage, I will like you to let me know when exactly will want to take the monkey so that i can set up an arrangement for the delivery." My name Lona OtteLona.Otte@transnet.net or lona.otte@gmail.comCell: 083 598 8312

I saw a similar ad for bunnies and contacted the seller, Stephen Alan. I agreed to place a deposit on the bunnies with the balance upon delivery. The seller agreed to ship the bunnies at his expense. Of course, the outcome is that I lost R3000. There is a lot more to this story as their scam has been improved to address the the issues in the above discussions. I have also filed a report on this website with details of this new/evolving scheme. See the report/link below. http://www.reportacrime.co.za/CrimeReport.aspx?ID=3416

Thank you for this report. My wife and I have been searching for a Ragdoll kitten and found an advert on locanto.co.za last night. We responded and got an email back from stephen_alan@ymail.com. The story sounded too good to be true an it turned out to be so! The advert said that he was in Rustenburg and 2 x males and 1 x female. In his response to our query from the advert he then said he had 1 x male and 2 x females. I Googled the email address and found this page, after a little more fishing he came back to say that he was based in Bloemfontein, gave 8 Louis Botha St Waverley as the address and the same number as listed in other stories - 0514364424. That address is a medical res, not a residential property. I cannot believe that people can be so dishonest but am grateful for people who post about it... A little Google and some good honest folks like yourselves saved me from being scammed. Thank you!

This person is doing the same with pedigree cat breeds, asking for money for "relocation costs". If you google his (fake) email address you'll find more info on him: stephen_alan@ymail.com

I was looking for a pug just last week on OLX website and a guy also with name Stephen Alan responded to say hes got two dogs, asking for R2000 each and he can arrange the dogs to be delivered. His email address stephena@ymail.com. My instincts kicked in when he responded and referred to the dog as "her" instead of him coz i agreed on male dog. and decided to google his name and thank you to the report above that someone mentioned him, i will not go through with it. This Stephen Alan needs to be investigated. Regards
