340KG of dagga found at routine roadblock

Five people will appear in the Prins Albert Magistrate's Court on Monday after they were found in possession of 340kg of dagga, Cape Town police said.

They were arrested on Saturday morning during a routine roadblock on the N1 highway in Leeu Gamka, Captain Bernadine Steyn said.

"A white Toyota Quantum minibus that was travelling in the direction of Cape Town was pulled over during the roadblock at about 11.40am.

"The vehicle was searched and 40 bags of dagga were found," she said.

The dagga has an estimated street value of about R340 000.

The occupants of the car, a man and four females, from Khayelitsha were arrested and remained in custody.
