Cops and an animal welfare organisation say a dog owner was horrified to find out his pet Tessa had been raped.
The weak-looking dog is now in the care of Tears animal rescue in Ocean View.
The owner of the dog called the animal clinic to
complain that his dog was constipated and had difficulty urinating.
Heiny van Reenen, 19, says he noticed blood coming out of his beloved Tessa's behind and immediately informed the clinic last week.
And when the animal rescue vets examined the dog they discovered the horrible truth.
Heiny says he was shocked when members of the organisation showed him and his family pictures of the dog's injured genitals on Thursday and told them that Tessa had been raped.
"We had no idea that the dog was raped and we only found out when the people [from Tears] came to show us the pictures," he says.
Heiny says he cried when he saw how mutilated his beautiful dog was.
Ocean View police spokesperson Helena Mouton says Tessa is recuperating at Tears and they are investigating a case of animal cruelty.
"The owner of the dog says he initially thought there was something wrong with the dog when they took it to the clinic and after being examined the doctors found it had been raped," she says.
"When we noticed the blood coming out of her bum we thought she had difficulty relieving herself and a neighbour called the vet," he says.
The Daily Voice visited Tears but they declined to comment, saying they were still investigating.
