what a shocker

Before, l elaborate on what transpired when l applied for the ABSA Capital Graduate programme 2013 here is an extract from their website pertaining hiring or employing candidates;

Minimum requirements for the programme

Postgraduate B degree or equivalent NQF level 8 qualification to be obtained before January 2013
Less than twenty four (24) months permanent work experience (this excludes temporary work during full-time studies)
Absa recruits graduates across Africa. We therefore consider applications from non South African citizens. In such instances, it is the individuals’ responsibility to obtain the necessary documentation to obtain your work permit
Postgraduate qualification in Commerce, Investment Management, Business Science, Science and Mathematics, Advanced or Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Law and Information Technology
Overall C+ Academic average across all years of study
Actively involved in leadership and entrepreneurial initiatives
Less than twenty four (24) months permanent work experience (this excludes temporary work during full-time studies)
Absa recruits graduates across Africa. We therefore consider applications from non South African citizens. In such instances, it is the individuals’ responsibility to obtain the necessary documentation to obtain your work permit

Based on this clause l applied to the ABSA Graduate programme because its clear from their requirements that anyone who is non South African can be employed to the programme. However, when my application was accepted l underwent a number of assessment tests which were done online and the third stage of the assessment meant l should do it physical in which case it happened on the 12 of October 2012.I underwent a full day assessment at the ABSA offices in Johannesburg and l stayed there for 2 days.On completion of the assessment l then went back to Eastern Cape were l am a student there to wait for the feedback.I had to wait for more than a month without any feedback. However,l communicated with other students who are SA citizens they told me that they went for the last assessment in their respective departments.l then called the Graduate recruitment officer and verified what was the problem.l was told that logistic issues where the problem. However,as more non SA Citizens who underwent the assessments before faced the same situation the answers were different. We where told that we cannot be called for the last assessment and we cannot be recruited in S.A.l personal called the graduate recruitment office again and he told me that they are sending names to our countries of origin and we will need to do other interview,in which case non of it was true.l then posed these question to him.

1)Why are we writing interviews for ABSA S.A yet they want us to work in other Barclays banks outside S.A which have their own programmes as well?
2)Whats the purpose of us disturbing our academic schoolwork and sacrificing to write those assessments yet at the end of it we are not needed?
3)Why is that the bank says it takes non S.A citizens yet they just concluded without asking us if we had the necessary documents,in which l highlighted to the recruiter that Tiger Brands,Unilever etc have graduates programme as well and they recruit non S.A citizens since it is covered by the student permit since its learning and part of career building.
4)Why are they raising the issue of permits before recruiting because their clause reads; Absa recruits graduates across Africa. We therefore consider applications from non South African citizens. In such instances, it is the individuals’ responsibility to obtain the necessary documentation to obtain your work permit.
5)Why are non S.A students used as pawns in the programme selection when the ultimate picture is that the programme is for S.A students.

l then highlighted to the recruitment office that their clause is a total misrepresentation that has been in existance for some years, because l met other students who were victimized last year in the same programme.

For these highlighted reasons.l`m filing a fraud complaint on ABSA based on breach of contract and total misrepresentation in which every non S.A citizens relied upon unknowingly of what awaits ahead.Unnecessary trauma that comes after victimization and false hope which never materialized.l believe they is a serious scandal pertain this process since they are finances released in bringing every graduates for assessments and the fact that we where used as pawns in process it may have been made to motivate the company to release more finances to the programme using our names as beneficiaries to which it amounts to defamation of character.

Hope to hear from you soon.

I'm not pride to admit that our Foreign counterparts aerial just exceptianal when it comes to doing their work, they Give-it-all. Whereas most of us we accuse everything and anything on i"apartheid".

I Agree, Foreigners are much smarter and better workers than our local majority..

This is very unfair as I work with non-south africans from Zim and I regard them as outstanding workers. They give there all and they are smart and quick thinkers. Maybe someone is afraid that others will see that they have not been doing there job when they employ you.
