In our April newsletter, we told the story of the abandoned shack in Diepsloot squatter camp, with no less than 8 dogs (including 2 puppies) living there. The owners left in December, never to return again! The dogs were left to fend for themselves and as a result they have become a pack of wild dogs.
We started a feeding program where we take dog food and water on a daily basis for them. We managed to trap one adult dog and one puppy with our dog trap, but the rest of the dogs became suspicious and refuse to go into our trap.
Fortunately, Jan Coetzee, one of our loyal supporters, donated an injection stick to us, from Onderstepoort. It can extend up to 4 meters, with a syringe and needle at the end, filled with a tranquilizer. Jan also offered to assist us with injecting the dogs. He managed to inject one dog successfully and ten minutes later, we were able to drag her out from under the car wreck, where the dogs are hiding, next to the shack.
On Dr S Hahns operating table (main picture): a piece of shoe lace was still tied very tightly around her neck for all these months!
Unfortunately the rest of the dogs got a fright and ran away, but we will continue our rescue attempts for the remaining dogs.
She is recovering in the care of our vet, Dr Shelagh Hahn at Blue Bush Animal Clinic. SHE IS ALSO NOW IN DESPERATE NEED OF A VERY LOVING HOME!!! Please contact us if you can offer her a home.
PLEASE help us to help them by making a kind donation or forward this e-mail to all your friends.
