Subscription service activated without consent

This subscription service gave permission, without our knowledge, to our service provider to allow them to remove R7,00 from a cellphone which has no Internet access and cannot even do MMS. The money was removed without our knowledge until we enquired with the service provider, only to be told that "we had subscribed" to a service known as Kulaville which operates through, MMt and Mira Networks.

I totally agree!!! This is shit, getting charged for stuff you did not subscribe to! And the fuckers get away with it. It cost me almost R400 to evetually find out how to unsubscribe from this crap, my theory is that they don't make any money, so they have to con us to do business!!!

I have previously had to unsubscribe from this service even though I never subscribed. When I checked my invoice from Vodacom this month, I noticed that I am AGAIN being charged for the same service to KULAVILLE, which I most definitely never subscribed to. Vodacom is shrugging their shoulders and says it is my problem!

An amount of R7.00 has been removed, without consent from 071 898 1247. To my dismay I have been charged seven rand from the October 2013 until now! . This is clearly a fraudulent activity. Can you immediately unsubscribe me (I have asked MTN to do the same). Can you please refund the money you have deducted from this account to date, or I will have no alternative but to take this further. Is this how you rip us off! I want my money returned or I will get the law involved. I look forward to your response.

I have recently realised that Kulaville has been unlawufully deducting money on my new contract with Cell C. I have never susbcribed to this service.

  • mas barts 3 Jul 2013, 09:51 PM

Similar situation here. My son of 11 years must have clicked on some link on 26 June and immediately received an SMS from Kulaville saying (translated from Dutch) "Free SMS: Welcome at Kulaville. Log on using the following URL: http://bzm.tv/s/18033545FD." Since then EUR 4.50 (per week) was charged against his prepaid card. No service is delivered. No app behind it. It is a complete scam and very unsettling that companies like Vodafone happily play the middle man in such criminal behavior.

  • sibusiso mbokazi 2 Jul 2013, 11:22 AM

please unsubscribe me from your services cause my number has been blocked now

  • george5 2 Jul 2013, 07:27 AM

Kulaville's subscription system causes unsuspecting cell phone users to become subscribed AUTOMATICALLY. This was proven in this article here: http://www.moneyweb.co.za/moneyweb-special-investigations/cell-c-took-clients-money-without-permission The journalist there is asking for people to contact him with more cases.

  • WJansen 1 Jul 2013, 02:53 PM

please stop this subscription now, as i did not subscribe to anything, this is really fraudulant activities, you reply countless times to their sms's asking them to stop be nothing is done, i think i should take this matter further.

  • Angela Walker 13 Jun 2013, 10:24 AM

My 11year old daughter has also been caught by this service and we only found out after 15 days where her airtime was going. They were taking R7 per day. I tried to cancel it yesterday 12 June 2013 and sms'd STOP to 43958. I even called them and spoke with an agent, but when Cell C phoned them at lunchtime to confirm the cancellation, Cell C was told that it was still active. I ended up changing her cellphone no. We dont even know what she was paying R7 a day for. They managed to get away with R105.

  • liezel gelderbloem 4 Jun 2013, 10:13 AM

same situation!money being deducted without me subscribing ever?!HELP pls .i dont have money to waste on crab like this!

  • Peter2 28 May 2013, 08:52 AM

These guys are thieves - they steal. All these complains so many people are being robbed without knowing. I also started noticing my money disappering and was wondering why - i was blaming the Samsung i just bought. i never subscribed to any website but my airtime was disappearing. I thought MTN was supposed to protect its customers but no, i think they own kulaville website because they are also loosing money and they should find a way of protecting its customers. They MTN should be able to stop these subscriptions

i have the same problem..this is fraud and i will open a case number if my money is not back they stole from me they have been doing this for months on both my contracts i work hard for my family and i can not afford this and i will not leave it like this

  • Denise5 9 May 2013, 07:51 AM

I have exactly the same problem with Kulaville (Opera interactive). I have not subscribed for anything from them, but I have been charged R7 a day since the 6th of February. I have also not received anything from them in this time to alert me of this supposed subscription. MTN who in actual fact is accommodating this charge without consent must also be held liable. If I phone MTN customer services they do a security check, but they allow a cost of R7 a day on my account without any type of verification.

  • Username3580 7 May 2013, 01:33 PM

I became aware of my airtime disappearing into thin air - when I went to my Service provider they said that I was subscribed to some service that deducts monies - they gave me the name of the company who is the gateway to Kulaville (Opera interactive) - I did not subscribe to anything via my cellphone - they are stealing our money and apparently nobody knows what to do about it - what a shame!

  • adriana 5 May 2013, 09:18 PM

My money was allso deducted without my knowledge. I would like to now who is rersponsible for this because I didn't subscribe and now all my money is gone.

  • andrew swain 28 Apr 2013, 03:10 PM

same problem as above complaints. I am 70. What would I want with a teenage dating service!

  • Samuel Manabe 28 Apr 2013, 01:51 PM

I've the same problem where this Kulaville R7/day deduction is frustrating my daily living. Kulaville simple must stop fraud before it got worse. i'll like my number 0743264312 be released from their bill.

  • james10 25 Apr 2013, 06:08 PM

The same thing happened to me.My wife's airtime was deducted without permission from her phone. The phone is asimple one. It's got no internet facility. This was done two months in succession. It has since been unsubscribed after I complained to the service provider. We do not know this company.

  • Alida rossouw 22 Apr 2013, 10:29 PM

R202,62 for subscription services to Opera Interactive for this Kulaville service. I don't even know what it is supposed to do, or how it was activated. Our service providers should be protecting us from companies that literally steal our money

  • unHappy2 20 Apr 2013, 02:47 PM

I received an sms on monday reading: " Reminder You have been invited to chat on Kulaville click http://bzm.tv/pr/699DF38### - help? 0105008164 " which ofcourse I ignored, but then 5 minutes later I receive a second sms reading: " Reminder ur subscribed to kulaville. 1 New updates waiting. click http://bzm.tv/pr/699DF38### to read cost R7/day help?0105008164. to unsub sms stop to 43891 " these criminals need to be brought to justice, I am sure there is some kind of a law against this nonsense.

  • Ditto 18 Apr 2013, 10:00 AM

Same here. Have no idea how I could have subscribed to something I do not want without me knowing it. CellC said they will stop the service from their side but advised me to contact Operainteractive (0841945555) through whom the subscription was made. Operainteractive referred me to DoubleMT (0105008164) who tried to convince me that I have subscribed to "kulaville" by following several steps after receiving a sms. At the time of my "subscribing" to the service, I was at work and nobody else had access to my phone. Who can put an end to this?

  • Nina3 15 Apr 2013, 01:48 PM

The same thing has just happened to me. I discovered that MTN is billing me for R202,62 for subscription services to Opera Interactive for this Kulaville service. I don't even know what it is supposed to do, or how it was activated. Our service providers should be protecting us from companies that literally steal our money. When I see MTN's logo, I want to vomit on it.

  • carmen12 5 Apr 2013, 10:39 PM

This poes mst stop I neva evn subscribed myself

  • Jon3 26 Mar 2013, 09:30 AM

Same situation. Same nonsense. Users have to contact these crooked minds to rectify the situation and to recover what had been taken from you. The definition of THEFT is that anyone who takes something from another without that person's permission with the intention to deprive him permanently of his ownership, commits theft. .... and , oh, when found out, then you say sorry and refund! Bulldust! Theft is theft!

  • khosi3 13 Mar 2013, 06:44 AM

Please stop this its my hard earned money deducted by this fraudulent scam, even this support centre is not accessable, why waste my money calling if I already shown my unhappiness because I called my calls were dropped.

  • Morena Meya 17 Feb 2013, 09:35 PM

I have experienced a similar problem regarding kulaville. I was subscribed unknowingly onto their service. I am being charged R7 per day. I lose my hard earned money everyday despite having informed them to stop any subscription. I sent four Sms messages on the 27 January 2013 requesting them to stop any subscriptions that I would have unknowingly subscribed to. To my dismay I have been charged seven rand from the 27th January until now. I sent another SMS on 8 February 2013 and no one from kulaville has unsubscribed my number from their service. This is clearly a fraudulent activity. I have to open a case of fraud against them

  • Username3128 14 Feb 2013, 07:00 PM

It is possible to speak to the Customer Care at:010 500 8164 (MMT) or e-mail them on: support@kulaville.com I hope you will be assisted, it was good on their part to refund the money we lost. Have details of the SMS available that caused the problem. Speak to your Service Provider for details, ours was taken as accepted by merely opening an SMS as the phone has no ability to use the Internet let alone any data bundles on it.

  • Bern jarman 14 Feb 2013, 04:32 PM

I have just been caught with the same thing. What can I do about it? I probably thought I was subscribing to whatsapp and never once was I informed that I would be charged. Had I been informed I would have deactivated it,immediately, now I am presented with this bill, they are unscrupulous, can I do anything or is it my bad luck,

  • Brendon McHugh 13 Feb 2013, 07:26 AM

My elderly pensioner Mother has also been a victim of these crimnals. I am amazed how WASPA continues to allow them to conduct business in this country if you consider all the complaints related to their illegal billing of customers. In my case my Mother's cellphone was drained of her airtime by kulaville (a teenager dating serive or similar) which they say my Mother susbscribed to! I am going to now make it my mission to get this lot shut down once and for all.

  • Username3128 11 Feb 2013, 06:22 PM

The above mentioned subscription service have removed their subscription from the phone and have now re-instated the removed money. I want to thank them here for their co-operation in this regard.
