Controversial Teazers owner Lolly Jackson was shot and killed in Kempton Park, east of Johannesburg, police said.
The man who shot him allegedly fled in Jackson's Jeep Cherokee and police were searching for him, Sergeant Tsholofele Madumo told Sapa.
By midnight, no arrest had been made. The alleged killer had called the police to inform them of the shooting before fleeing.
"We cannot tell you whether he called from the same house because that will come out during the investigation," said Gauteng police spokesperson Eugene Opperman
He confirmed that a man was shot several times in a house in Edleen, Kempton Park.
"At this stage, some family members have not yet been informed so we cannot release the man's name."
Police had received the call from a person claiming to have shot a man at a house in Edleen. On arriving at the premises, they found it locked.
The police then summoned the owner of the house from his business to come and open the premises.
"Inside, police found the body of a man who had been shot several times."
Opperman said the perpetrator left the scene and police were still searching for him.
"It is difficult to say if anything was taken from the house, or if he [Jackson] was alone at the time."
