Holiday Backpackers, 21 Wale Street

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This past Sunday around lunchtime, a 'friend' I had metrecently robbed me inside a room at this backpacker and to top it all, I gotharassed by their bogus 'tenants & staff'. An arrangement was made withthis 'friend' to meet in town and I was made to believe he will be moving intoa new backpacker so I was welcomed to visit. We get to the reception area andfind the manager on duty, also in the lounge area is a young lady and a gentlemansitting a little distant from one another. To my surprise, the manager on dutyonly accepts the cash from my ‘friend’ and the key for the room is handed overwithout having signed anything! But who I am to question anything, after allI've never stayed in BackPackers so this might be the norm. We(I and the'friend') go to his room, start chatting, a while later go buy a 6pack ofbeers, bring them into the room and continue to chat as normal, getting to knowone another.I can't help but notice the rate at which he's gulping his beer andsmoking his cigarettes one after the other, acting like a nervous wreck, which Ipolitely question and he responds with a cool 'I had a long day'.This gets mepanicing a bit and the chatting is slightly vanishing from both of us but atthe same time I don't wanna be showing any signs that I'm starting to feeluneasy. He seems to notice as he tells me that I look terrified but keepsassuring me to trust him. All this time,I had placed my Cellfone & CarKeyson the table. After the 2nd beer I get up to use the bathroom whichis just outside the room and by the time I return, the room is locked.I go tothe reception to find out if they know where my ‘friend’ has gone. I now findanother young lady who suddenly knows that I’m looking for my ‘friend’ and shetells me he’s dropped the key but has no idea where he’s gone. I find thispuzzling but continue to wait none-the-less in the lounge area. A few minutes later,I start to realize that I’m being taken for a fool and I start demanding answers. At first she doesn’t want to give me the key to go check the room but later onagrees to accompany me.I get to the room only to find out he has taken myCellfone, the remaining beers are still left together with a vest he had onunderneath his T-shirt.When I start demanding my car keys, the lady starts causinga scene telling me the guy left without paying and I need to pay before I cantake anything out of the room, which I told her was ludicrous as I was only avisitor, not having made any deals about getting the room. Then the others whowere posing as tenants in the lounge area started getting involved alsoscreaming at me telling me I can’t leave without having paid. When they realizedI wasn’t budging to any of their nonsense, they started getting a little softeron me, asking me to calm down. They even tried tricking me into paying them sothat they can show me where the guy stays as he is known for those kinds oftricks. It started getting heated again when I asked them to first guaranteethat I was gonna see the guy and get my fone back. All they were concernedabout was me coughing out more money, it seems. The one thing I picked up was how they seemed to know everythingabout what had happened there and how they didn’t warn me nor care about mehaving lost my fone, it was just about their demands. There is so much dodgybusiness going on there, I wish something could get done before a pile of deadpeople get recovered, trust me it’s possible and they would just get away withit…It’s not that simple for anyone to see through their little façade in thatbackpacker.Concerned citizen,Patrick.
