A senior police officer in the crime-fighting unit the Hawks is to appear in court soon for allegedly calling a court security guard a "f****n black stupid baboon".
But he remains on duty.
Director of Public Prosecutions Bonnie Currie-Gamwo said on Wednesday that Colonel Gabriel Theron faced a charge of crimen injuria in the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court on May 26.
Hawks spokesman Musa Zondi said Theron had not been suspended. "Let's wait for the court process to be concluded," said Zondi.
Khayelitsha court complex security guard Bulelani Mgcuwe has also reported Theron to the Equality Court.
Mgcuwe, 34, said the officer insulted him about a month ago after an argument over parking space at the busy court complex. He said Theron called him a "stupid security guard", and then a "f****n black stupid baboon".
Later, he said: "Do you know that the Western Cape is under the control of white people, that we play the guitar and black baboons must dance to our music?"
