I was in my house asleep upstairs. The gate was locked, all the doors were locked and the alarm was off because we never switch it on during the day. 2 or more people broke into the house, they found me sleeping upstairs. They decided to shoot me, I pleaded with them to just go away, I hid in the bathroom and a moment later, they had left the bedroom with my ipad, macbook pro, celphones, acer laptop, playstation 3..., and downstairs they grabbed the new Plasma TV and some more laptops. The most shocking fact about the crime is that it looks as if the criminals new exactly where everything was in the house. They didnt waste time going into rooms which had no valuables or electronics. Also, their courage to break into our house in broad daylight suggests some insight into the alarm not being armed. We have clear and visible signs on our walls that the place is "protected" by ADT, but they thought it worth the risk to invade our home. I think the most frightening part of what happened to me is that even though the ADT patrol car is normally parked literally a stone's throw away from where we stay, when called upon, they took nearly 20min to respond. Not to mention that this was the 5th break-in in my suburb, (atleast 3 from my street alone - according to police officials who came to the scene) Please be careful and make sure you can trust your Security Provider/ Neighbourhood Watch (an arrest of an ADT officer has been made in connection with break-ins in my neighbourhod). I would also like to issue a strong warning: A couple of weeks before our break-in, we had just purchased a new Plasma TV and DSTV decoder from Game at Boulders shopping centre in Midrand. The men who came to install the DSTV (which Game referred to us) came into our home and saw the whole house (they installed it in all the rooms with TVs). I did not see the criminal's full face from the front, but I am quite certain I had seen him when they came to install the DSTV. (The police say they cannot pursue this avenue as I did not see his entire face) Please be aware of this crime wave happening in the suburb of Midrand and be carefull of who you let into your home.
