OLX sale

I advertised my laptop on OLX for R12000. I was then contacted by mr William Brooks (0729084794) who wanted to buy this laptop urgently. I reveived an sms from Standard bank to confirm that the EFT has gone through. We arranged to meet at Sandton City. Mr Brooks sent his 'driver' to pick up the laptop and also supplied me with a copy of his ID, TV license account and a printout of the EFT on a Standard Bank letterhead. So, in good faith, I handed the laptop over to the driver. Needless to say NO money has been transferred and mr Brooks' latest excuse is that the bank has 'softlocked' his account - so he does not have access to any funds. I went to Standard Bank and found out that mr Brooks does not even have an account with them.....

Never ever trust proof of payments, check that the money is in your account first before handing anything over. We got a SMS confirmation once that looked very very real of a payment made into our account. The guy only slipped up cause he told us that he was with FNB but typed Nedbank in the SMS notification so my husband got suspicious and checked the account and there was no money. The guy wanted the items immediately, but my husband refused to hand over the goods until the money was cleared in the account and obviously it was a scam, cause we never received the money and the guy never contacted us again. So be aware. Sorry for your loss. It is scary how people scam innocent people.
