I bought a vehicle from John Pillay, a motor dealer at 368 Commissioner St Jhb. The vehicle had 80 461km on the odometer at the time of purchase. I specifically asked if the vehicle had been in any serious accidents and was assured by John Pillay that the AA Roadworthy Report would disclose that information. He then told me there were no major accidents. I requested the service history of the vehicle, which he promised to provide, but never did. After buying the vehicle cash, I requested the service history of the vehicle from Toyota, and was shocked to discover that at the last service, 5 months prior to my purchasing the vehicle, the odometer of the vehicle showed a milage of 210 988km. After contacting the previous owners of the vehicle, who's details appeared on the service history, I discovered that not only had the odometer been tampered with, but that the vehicle was written off shortly after that service. I checked the engine number of the vehicle, and it was correct, so the engine had not been replaced which would have accounted for the discrepency in milage. The previous owners were insured by Santam who sold the vehicle to Bonerts, who in turn sold it to a business aquaintance of John Pillay, who happens to run his business on the same premisis as John Pillay. I confronted John Pillay with this information and requested a full refund. He told m e he would have to resell the vehicle in order to recover the funds. I told him I want nothing to do with a fraudulent transaction. since then he has done nothing but make empty promises, avoid my calls, and tell staff to inform me he is not available - strangely I have heard his voice in the bvackround. When we have caught him off guard at his place of, work, we get one story after another, the latest being that he has had a deal approved for the resale of my vehicle through a particular finance house. When I called the finance house, they confirmed that there never was any such deal. I have heard nothing from John Pillay since then, even though I have sent messages imploring him to contact me so we can sort out this problem. This has been going on for three months now. I wonder how many more unsatisfied customers John Pillay has out there, getting absolutely no results from him? Is this how an honest honerable person conducts business????
