I applied online to buy a car, sent all my details, from then i got sms's to the wrong number, i thought maybe its a mistake, the sms said Kathy where are you?
i later got a call asking for kathy. This guy said o sorry wrong number, i put down the phone, An operator from "MTN" then calls me and says hi there is someone else also using your number, send this number (13 digit number) to 072 xxx xxxx, then the other number will get cancelled. i do this and its a request to change my number to cell c. I think to myself, this cant be right, I follow the guys instructions like an idiot first time, and after a while it sounds weird, i ask for him to give me his got description and he does so, his employee number, he does so, physical address of where he works and he does so, then i ask him to transfer me to accounts department, then he starts to buckle, then i ask to speak to his manager, then he says please hold, and puts down the phone, then i called mtn and they say that is a request to change your number, i call cell c and tell them to cancel the request to port the number. luckily mtn blocked the request to change my cell number to cell c. other wise they would have had access to my money. check the link out to absa website > sim swop fraud. now i have to call all the banks in south africa and tell them to not give out loans and to dissallow cell phone banking.
