STAR YEARLY PROMOTION

Another Cell Phone Scam.  Received the following SMS :
"Congratulation, Your no. Was among the  lucky winners on the STAR YEARLY PROMOTION. You won, R150.000.00, Ticket no. 0106Z.  Call Mr. Ryan Geoffrey on 083 988 5389 for your cash prize from 08am to 05 pm. Monday To Friday,, Thank You !!"
I phoned the number from my land line and asked who I was speaking with.  I was advised by a man with an accent that he was Ryan Geoffrey.  I asked him whether this SMS was legitimate and he responded that it was.  He asked for the Ticket No.  I cut him off as I was not feeling comfortable.  I see that his name has been linked to a few scams.
How do they get our numbers, why are they allowed to get away with this.  Surely there is some form of profit for them or else they would not continue with these scams.  How can we stop this?

Received the same mail today. Phoned the number and "Ryan Geoffrey" actually answered. I immediately put he phone down. Why do the cops not set this individual up and bust him.

Ask the cops, ooooooops Sorry they dont have time to deal with real crime. As long as the government allows these Nigerian elements into the country, these scams will carry on. Just be wise and dont respond because that is when they make money. If you call the number, you get billed like R 500.00 a minute and they will drag the call out for as long as possible.Delete and ignore
