I had placed an advert on Gumtree on tuesday 5 August 2014 with regards to the sale of my laptop. I received and email about an hour after posting the add from a "Hillary Nkosi" asking if the laptop was still available so I texted the number that was with the email and said yes it is.The person had asked me how old is the laptop and what condition it is in as well as where I am from. I responded to the texted message with the specs and my location. I received a text back saying "I am Roy, I am in joburg so if you can sms me your banking details then i can do payment now, when Im done let you know then you can put it in the post to the courier I am going to pay for the post" I then called this person and asked so who is Hillary then cause you are a man and he said that his name is Hillary. I dished out my details like an idiot however I used an account of mine that is rarely used and contains very little and I indicated that I will courier it as soon as I receive proof of payment. I asked for the address and it was and the text back was "Mark it Hillary Nkosi, no 49 Sollil court, corner of south and isipingo road, belleavue, jhb" I received a text message indication that a Nedbank account has deposited money into my account and that the money would be in, in 24 to 48 hours. This guy then continued to call me and was very persistant about when I would courier it. I made excuses for as long as I could cause I was a bit skeptical of courier before payment reflects. Then he sent me a text saying that he needs the laptop soon as he is buying it for his son who is leaving for overseas tomorrow. Being a soft person I then couriered the laptop the next day and forwarded him the trackin number. I couriered the laptop at 09:18 am and got text at 15:45 saying "thanks" that he had received the laptop. I called my bank and queried about the deposit and the had said nothing had come through. I then texted "Roy" telling him that my bank requests that he check with his bank as to where the funds are. I did not get any response. I then called and called and the phone just rang. I then switched my caller ID off and called and he answered. He said that he is in a meeting and will call me back after 30 minutes. I never got a call back. I tried calling throughout the night and the number just rang. The next morning I tried calling again and the number was off, I then sent an email to him being rather rude as well as a text to say that I am waiting for his call. As soon as my text should delivered I call from private number and he answered and I spoke very rudely asking what the hell is going on. He then swore me and told me not to contact him again. The name he used is "Hillary Nkosi" email address: firstname.lastname@example.org and the cell number used is "073 563 5134". I cant believe that I was such an idiot considering that my gut feeling was that this guy is a fraudster. I learnt the hard way to always trust my instincts. I believe that I was not the first victim of fraud from this particular fraudster, he changes his name often, uses different email addresses and uses different numbers. Please BEWARE, dont make the same mistake I did. If someone gives you proof of payment almost immediately and is persistant on you sending the item, refuse, even if he dishes out some sad story as to why he needs it urgently, DO NOT FALL VICTIM to this low life like I did.
