I received a phone call on Saturday morning on my land line at the beginning of the month. the male calleridentified himself as the brother of my domestic worker. He informed me thatmy domestic as been kitted in a car accident the previous night and the that he requires money and air time to arragne the funeral, inform the other faimily members and to come to Durban form norther KZN to identify the body. He phoned many times in the span of an hour sounding very distressed telling me to hurry up and post 5000 rand through Checkers and send the air time pin..I had dialled my domestic's phone but it went repeatedly to voice mail. I sent the moeny and the person phoned back to tell me that he needed a further 3000 Rand urgnetly...By then my domestic had seen my missed calls and called me back. I reported it to the police, who never even managed to view the CCTV footage at Checkers where the money was withdrawn or check if the ID number used forthe withdrawal belogend to a known criminal.My domestic said she had received a couple of phone calls that Saturday morning from somebody posing to phone on behalf of her network provider and asking her to switch her phone off for some network related issues.
