I found an ad on Locanto, selling British Shorthair kittens. The username of the person on Locanto is Lisa2005. This was their response on my inquiry: "Hello ,please send to me your email address so that i can mail you with more details regarding my babies. Best regards". I sent the person my email and they responded from an email address firstname.lastname@example.org. They sent photos of the kittens and all the details. I asked them for proof that it is not a scam and this is what they replied: "Hello ,We are 100% legit .Attachment more pictures of Joy and for more guarantee ,you will have to pay 50% upfront and 50% after delivered upon confirmation of health wise .Let me know your decision about this .Best regards". I paid the deposit into the following account: FNB, reference: Seromo J, Account number: 62487236393, Branch code: 250655. They gave me this contact number: 083 416 6954. Then they emailed me saying that the cat can't be delivered the next day, because her daughter got into an accident and they will be at the hospital all day. So I said it's fine. The next morning, I sent a text asking when I can expect the kitten. She phoned me back ( in a French English accent), crying on the phone and said her daughter passed away the previous night, but will take the kitten to the airport as soon as possible. Later that morning I received an email from email@example.com saying that the cat is at the airport, but that we need to pay R 4,700 for an electronic crate for the cat to be transported in and when the cat is delivered to us, we will get a refund of R 4,200. Obviously then I knew something was not right. A guy phoned me and told me that we need to make the deposit in half an hours time before the next flight leaves. His name is Melvin. I googled the cell number that he phoned me from 0760614146 and the first page was scamalert.co.za. The banking details that he gave me for the electronic crate deposit is: ABSA Bank, Account number: 9296843144, Reference: S Ndlovu, Branch Code: 632005. There are sick people out there, they will do anything to take your money. Do not fall for this!!
