Man robbed by 5 initiates

A man was robbed by five newly-graduated initiates in a township near Butterworth on Saturday, police said.

The five robbed the 31-year-old of his money, cellphone and belt in the Bika Township, said Captain Jackson Manatha.

The man recognised the initiates, or amakrwala, by their attire. After graduating from circumcision school, the men wear a checked cap and jacket with khaki shirt and trousers.

Manatha said initiatives never robbed someone before.

"It's rare and it's a disgrace," he said. "They come from traditional school. They should be men."
