150kph Winnie curses cop

Winnie Madikizela-Mandela is reportedly demanding an apology after her car was pulled over on the M1 in Gauteng for driving recklessly at 150km/h in traffic, according to Beeld.

Warrant Officer Jannie Odendaal told the newspaper that Nelson Mandela's ex-wife swore at him when she emerged from the vehicle.

"Who the f**k do you think you are?" she repeatedly yelled at Odendaal and his fellow flying squad officers.

"I didn't recognise her since she had white powder all over her face and looked much older than when I'd last seen her," Odendaal told Beeld.

"I've been working my arse off in the police for 19 years and now I have to apologise to her for doing my job," he added.

"I don't know if I still belong in the police if this is the way they treat me.

"It looks like they're accepting Ms Madikizela-Mandela's word above my own," Odendaal said.

The incident reportedly took place just before 10am on 30 December 2010 at the Jan Smuts Avenue off-ramp on the M1. The officers noticed a silver Audi A6 driving recklessly.

"We decided to pull over the Audi and switched on our sirens and lights," Odendaal said.

"A man jumped out and yelled: 'Who the hell do you think you are to want to search this vehicle, we are not in the era of apartheid any more'," Odendaal continued, adding that the vehicle only pulled over after about five kilometres.

Odendaal said that the man, who appeared to be a bodyguard, bumped up against his chest.

"I fetched a taser from our vehicle to scare him off. He then said they are accompanying Ms Madikizela-Mandela and they're very late."

Madikizela-Mandela then reportedly got out, shouted at the officers, and instructed driver to resume driving.

Madikizela-Mandela, her bodyguard and driver have since laid three complaints against the officers, who have been transferred to different departments while the incident is probed.

"We were asked to write a report and did so. We had to go to the provincial office where a general said Madikizela-Mandela would withdraw the complaints against us if we apologise to her," Odendaal said.
