We had a guest staying with us from our previous employer in johannesburg. Having worked with him for a year, when he asked to stay with us when he came to Cape Town for an interview we obliged.
Needless to say, after 2 weeks he still hadn't left and informed us that he cannot return to his job in Johannesburg and asked us to help him get a waiter job in Cape Town. As my husband is the Manager of a top-class restaurant at the waterfront we managed to get him a job, and i spent hours helping him learn the menu etc as he is Egyptian and Arab, thus struggled with English.
After a week of tutoring he eventually got on the floor at the restaurant as a waiter on Monday 16 Feb. That night he stole another waiters wallet and committed Credit Card theft. As my husband was the manager on duty, hes duty included to get our "house guest" arrested.
He was charged with Theft and transferred from the holding cells to Polsmoor. on Sunday morning i got his bail money and packed his belongings to take it to him as i want nothing more to do with him.
after arriving at Polsmoor, a place neither of us are familiar with, we were informed that the office was closed and they cant help us until Monday
upon arriving home, still with all his belongings in our car, i saw him walking casually away with our bag over his shoulder. We got out to give him his stuff, while this was happening i looked up at our flat where flames where roaring out our top floor bedrooms.
I ran up, as the police were apprehending him. Apparently he was bailed out Sunday morning. He came back to our flat to get his stuff (which was with us in the car on the way to him).
He took all my husband and my clothes as well as all my 2 year old daughters belongings, piled them on our bed, set fire and put his matress on it to aggravate the flames.
We got in to a house smoldering, as a few neighbors had noticed the smoke and saw him climbing in and out the flat window.
We have lost everything we own, all my kids things. is this revenge arson?
The cops caught him running away, and put him in the van. surly a dangerous individual, with no one to vouch for him should not qualify for bail. I am scared for my life, and the safety of my daughter, as my husband is rarely home and we spend a lot of time alone at home.
Please can you set my mind at ease with what will happen now. We have opened a case arson against him, and is being charged on Tuesday 24/02
Am i safe? what do i do? with a loony who will set my bed on fire, i'm struggling to feel safe or sleep at night.
