I posted an add on OLX to sell a watch. In about 30 minutes after the post went live I received a call from an gentleman who stated that he was interested in purchasing the watch. I firstly enquired if he would like to meet up to view the watch due to the expense he would undergo if he purchased the watch and he stated that he was very busy seeing that he works at a mining company (of course he did not stated which one). He said that I should supply him with my banking details and that his wife will make an immediate payment and that he would send someone to collect on his behalf. I gave him my banking details at which point I received a SMS notification from "Nedbank" with the payment, the amount paid was about R2000 more than the asking price. I phoned him and he stated that his wife accidentally paid more. I told him that the money is not reflecting in my account and will only release the item to him once this has cleared. He was very anxious to get the watch at which stage I said I will contact the bank to verify the payment. I phoned both FNB and Nedbank and none of them could help but I was informed that I'm able to verify a payment on the www.netbank.co.za website. I did this and it was not legit. I phoned him back and stated that I'm not going to give him the watch until the money reflects and will give him a call once it has cleared. I phoned him this morning but of course the number no longer works.
