Dog tied up to railway line - left to die

Two amazing African Tails volunteers, Andre and Richelle, who run the Klapmuts Haven found Lucy (as they named her) tied up to a railway line where she was left to be hit by a train!

Lucy's (also pregnant) back legs was stretched out to be tied to her front legs and her head was tied to the bolt that holds the track in place where her head was just centimeters away from the track.

A train went over her leg where the paw was cut off and the muscle had been ripped from the already smashed bone!

Lucy is currently at the Market Street Animal Hospital where wonderful vets from the SPCA have stabilized her. The SPCA chief inspectorate Andries Venter had offered to do the further remedial operations.

SPCA chief inspector Andries Venter said they suspect the dog was tied to the railway line because she was pregnant.

NSPCA spokeswoman Chris Kuch said: "In the event that an animal is no longer wanted, please take it to an SPCA. No questions will be asked."

It is just SICK how people can do this to the loving animals and when I hear such things it really breaks my heart!!!

GOD PUTS YOU IN PLACES WHERE YOU ARE SURPOSED TO BE I had read about the horrific incident, and could not believe anyone could be so sadistic. Today a neighbour asked me to go with to a place where she was going to adobt a dog from and i met Lucky Lucy, a beautiful dog with 3 legs, seing the dog wisperer, remembering to treat this dog normal, and not with a disability, i had the wonderful opportunity of talking, and tickling and stroking this beautiful dog, when i came home i looked up her story on the internet, and was shocked to see it was that horrific story i had red about. I really believe God had put this opportunity of me going to this place and to meet up with this beautiful dog Lucy. I want to thank the couple that i met with today, and to say they are doing a fantastic calling from God, helping, reabilitating dogs, and caring them with love and compassion to each dog they have. I would like to stress, that all these dogs in homes like this one needs your help and support, to give each dog a good balanced home. Every rand helps feed and helps the animals, should they need care at the vet. please support them. Help Lucy and her friends, have well balanced meals and loads of love Yours in Christ Gwendoline

You guys should realize that the "people" who did this are barbaric, uncivilized animals themselves...

  • Unknown 4 Oct 2010, 10:48 AM

When u find these culprits please allow us to voice our opinions as they should know we want them to know that HATE IS NOT ENOUGH to express our emotions....but stoning them could relieve the slighest of our feelings.....seeing as a poor animal HAS NO VOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Unknown 5 Aug 2010, 01:48 PM

Anyone who can do that to an animal should die!!!!

  • Unknown 30 Jul 2010, 03:48 PM

Im crying, what horrible savage bastards. Whatever has the ability to do that is not human!!! I'm so glad we have a just God who will let them burn in Hell for eternity!!

  • Unknown 2 Jul 2010, 11:23 AM

its really isgusting to see people do these type of things!! Lets put an end to it!!!

  • Unknown 23 Jun 2010, 02:32 AM

This has made me cry. I honestly dont know how people can be so cruel. How can you bring yourself to do such a horrible thing. I honestly hope they find whoever did this and throw them in jail. I just glad that Lucy is on the road to recovery. Poor thing. My heart really goes out to her.

  • Unknown 24 May 2010, 02:53 PM

That person is just fucked up! Ass hole! If I get a guy like that I will put him through the same misery and I will have a smile on my face and not feel bad at all!!!

  • Unknown 24 May 2010, 02:46 PM

The guy according to me was never found. But the dog is doing just fine and was adopted.

  • Unknown 24 May 2010, 02:40 PM

My comment is similar to Carol's - is there perhaps an update on this story? I pray that justice was served - and I do not mean by the weak arm of SA law, I mean by the wrath of communities and karma...

  • Unknown 16 Apr 2010, 12:38 PM

Tie the swine up to a railway line and see how it feels.

  • Unknown 4 Apr 2010, 08:05 AM

Is there an update on Lucy's progress and is her tormenter any closer to being discovered and arrested? There must be people who have seen Lucy's photo and who know who did this to her! At least she appears to be in very good hands now and receiving much love. Good luck to you little Lucy and I wish you much love for the rest of your life.

  • Unknown 12 Mar 2010, 09:21 AM

I hope the bastard who did this suffers unimaginable pain throughout his long and miserable life. How can a living being be so cruel! Makes me sick to my stomach!!!

  • Unknown 11 Mar 2010, 04:51 PM

I cannot believe that someone can do this? Why? you know I cried so much when I READ THIS! PLEASE let them catch him tie him to a tree in the dessert put honey on him and let the ants eat him alive. lets see how this piece of shit will enjoy that. He is the devil himself

  • Unknown 25 Feb 2010, 03:54 PM

I first read this article in the People magazine, it had to be the one I picked up at my sister's to read. I cried while on the toilet and just cried while reading it again. Hope they catch the bugger and give same punishment! Sorry to hear that she lost her puppies, they would have been so cute!

  • Unknown 22 Feb 2010, 10:26 AM

It should be like overseas, where people actually get severe fines and sometimes jail sentances. They should be prohibited from ever owning another animal in thier lives.

  • Unknown 22 Feb 2010, 10:21 AM

This act is unthinkable!!! TO THE PERSON WHO DID THIS: What you sow, so you shall reap!! We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals. --Immanuel Kant

  • Unknown 21 Feb 2010, 07:04 PM

What these people do not realise. Whatever you do to other will come back to you. Something bad will happen to this person and then they will have to realise that they cause their own pain. God cannot condone any cruelty, HE is LOVE and expect us to have respect for any life.

  • Unknown 21 Feb 2010, 11:00 AM

The people who did this, the people who do any form of animal abuse deserve to be locked away for life or (if we had the death penalty in this country) have a death sentance. After reading this article in the People I was devistated, it really makes me HATE alot of mankind. Humans think they are at the top of the food chain but we are not...we have just destroyed it! We need people to unite and and make government realise that animal crimes are as serious as any other and PEOPLE MUST BE PUNISHED!!!!!

  • Unknown 19 Feb 2010, 04:31 PM

That Sicko and all the others out there. (and there are many) the Universe is watching. Justice will be done one way or another.

  • Unknown 19 Feb 2010, 04:11 PM

This is extremely upsetting to just think what the poor little dog had to go through. How long it must have felt for her before someone rescued her. It was heroic for that man to went to someone to ask for help to rescue her and to them who them untied her and took her to the vet. Someone said in their remark that they would probably not find the owner, but I believe otherwise - I am 100% positive that they will and that he will be punished - no one gets away with inflicting such unbearable pain without somewhere in their lifetime being punished for it, that is for sure ! I see on the photo that she seems a little better and hope that she will quickly recover and I am sure she will with all the people who care for her.

  • Unknown 18 Feb 2010, 10:06 PM

I can't believe someone would actually try to hurt Lucy and any animal like this. It's horrible. I still can't believe it!

  • Unknown 16 Feb 2010, 10:22 AM

I really do hope, that as the initial article said, when Lucky Lucy is better that she will guide her finders to the owner. I so wish I could go with. My cell in Pollsmoore can be booked!!! I am so tired of reading about the cruelty that animals have to suffer. If the internet had been available 20 years ago my life would have taken a different direction. I cannot walk into a shop, look at the shelves, especially a pharmacy, detergents, anything that is tested on animals. The degradation and cruelty they have to suffer is despicable. Lets not forget about factory farming methods. Please, let everyone look at what is going on around them, animal abuse is everywhere and in every form.

  • Unknown 16 Feb 2010, 09:17 AM

Obviously people must have seen the owner with the dog in Wellington and with the reward being offered, I'm quite sure someone will spill the beans! And the owner should be sentenced seeing this pathetic government doesn't do death sentence anymore! But then again with this government you won't see much justice, he's too busy breeding 20 illiterate new brats!

  • Unknown 14 Feb 2010, 12:28 PM

Tammy: Sadly they were not able to save her pups because she went through to much stress and she needed the operation to remove her leg..........

  • Unknown 14 Feb 2010, 12:21 PM

I saw/ read of this story for the first time whilst driving to work one day - it was a headline on one of "Die Son's" lamp-postposters. I havent been able to bring myself to read more about it, because the thought of what that poor animal went through is too much for me to bear. The mear thought sends my mind whizzing, tears to my eyes and not to mention the amount of sleep that I have lost because of the nightmares. I accidentally came aross the story in People magazine yesterday, and could only read the first column. I just want say thank you to the good people that rescued Lucy, and especially to the man who first found her tied to the railway tracks and took the initiative to find someway to cut her free. I just cant comprehend the lengths to which some people will go to be cruel to another of God's children. Everyday I loose more and more respect for mankind, and the vicious acts which some can perform. Thank you again to the team that rescued Lucy, and I pray that she recovers quickly and that her and her pups find a happy and healthy home, where they can live in peace, safety and security.

  • Unknown 10 Feb 2010, 11:02 PM

Thank God for people like Andre and Richelle. The SPCA is there for a reason, those sick people could have taken her there. I cannot believe some monster could do that to an innocent, cute dog, especially when she is going to have puppies. I hope they get caught, and tied to a rail road themselves. DISGUSTING. I am glad Lucy is okay, she is so beautiful.

  • Unknown 8 Feb 2010, 04:41 PM

Upon reading this article in this weeks people magazine, I was sick to my stomach! To know that there are people that can actually do this, is beyond me... I am so saddened by this more than anything else, because this dog, "Lucky Lucy" did not deserve this, yet alone her unborn pups. I know it is not for us to seek revenge, but I really do pray that whoever was responsible for doing this will be riddled with guilt for the rest of their lives and know that they will get what they deserve! I came home to my two lovely Jack Russels today, Harry & Layla and I am just so angered, because seeing them, I really cannot comprehend how anyone could want to hurt any animal!

  • Unknown 1 Feb 2010, 01:21 PM

I really feel like tying this very cruel, sick individual to the track and ensuring that the train goes right over him!

  • Unknown 1 Feb 2010, 09:53 AM

Why did these despicable people take the time to torture this poor girl when they could have just taken her to the SPCA. People like this start on animals and go on to humans - may they be found and let the punishment fit the crime. I'll be in the queue after Karen!

  • Unknown 1 Feb 2010, 08:48 AM

Find the piece of shit and tie him in a public place. Please, I just need a few minutes!!!!!

  • Unknown 30 Jan 2010, 08:31 AM

Janet: The sad part is they will prob never find who did it!!!

  • Unknown 30 Jan 2010, 08:21 AM

I read in African Tail's Facebook page that Lucy is at SPCA Wellington branch. I hope SPCA investigate and try to find this scum. And I hope the courts actually do something.

  • Unknown 29 Jan 2010, 02:37 PM

Unfortunately the wheel doesnt turn quick enough for these F-ing bastards. It pisses me off to no end when I see shit like this!!! But then again, it also doesn't surprise me because there are some scum of the earth sickos out there. 2012...i hope the world gets wiped out instintaniously. We dont disurve to live adn breath...
