The neighbours son stuck his BB gun over our wall from their side and aimed into the tree. He fired off a round. The robin fell to the ground, wounded, but still alive. My husband ran to the wall yelling at the boy. He ran away. My husband picked up the bird and brought it to me so that he could call the SPCA (who were useless). It took the bird about 10 minutes to die, in agony, and convulsing. We went to the neighbour's house to find the parents were not home and the older son indifferent to the situation. Do parents not realise that children that abuse animals are more likely to become child/people abusers later in life? Respect for all life starts with animals. Even if they are birds which a lot of people think of as insignificant.
Besides from the fact that he killed a bird, it was in MY garden. What if he missed?
I have 2 kids that use the garden. Nieces and nephews from 7 months in age that use the garden when they visit. And there are my cats and dogs.
What if he had hurt one of these?
Or is all life so insignificant to him and his parents?
