Late night on 31st October, I got an sms from 0712390589 saying "Dear subscriber: Your network no. has been awarded with R 95,000 on our yearly consumer draw; REF NO.2608V. Contact Portia Zulu on 0837210325 from 8am-4.30pm." I tried to call the Portia no. the next day, it was not working. The following day morning I called and a lady picked up (South African black accent). Professionally, she asked me the reference no, and asked me to call back after 10 minutes while she checks on her computer for the same. I call again and she asked, whether I would like the money by cheque or transfered to my back account. When I queried, she said that my number had been selected as one of their promotions. She also said that I need to buy two R110 Vodacom vouchers and call her again. I did so and she said she needs the pin numbers of the vouchers to register me. I asked her if this is fraud, and she professionally convinced me that it's not. She said she will pass the pin numbers to someone in their accounts department and they will get back for further details. When I gave the pin numbers, she said, congratulations with a smile. That night, I got an sms from 0724288416 saying, "Congratulations! Your winning has been successfully registered; activation in progress please wait for further details." The next morning, I got another sms from the same number saying, "Att: (My name) in order for your money to be deposited into your account you have to pay R2,650 for insurance fees. Please call Portia for payment instructions." This is when I smelt a rat. I tried my vouchers and it said that it has been already used. I call the lady again and ask her about my vouchers and she said that it will be valid for 15 days and that she will check with the accounts department and that I should call after 20 minutes. I told her that she should call me back. When I didn't get a call for 2 hours, I called her and told her that she needs to tell me if this is fake. But she insisted that she will get back. Now I know for sure that it was a fraud. Wish the Crime department can track them down.
