Big Scam

I ordered a Nikon Camera and lens for R12295 and as mentioned in the above reports I have also been shunted around. I was also given a tracking number etc. I was then told I need to pay R5450 duty fees etc. and when I asked to see the stuff I was told I could view it at Capt Town Airport. I was also told quote "In regard to the import duty, we have contacted our head office in the UK and they said they were not aware of any import duty in SA because 200 Great Britain Pounds was paid to the UK customs before the package left for SA. Management is ready to make the payment but it will takes 30 working days to process out the money from company's account and by then the bill get accumulated by customs in SA, so they suggested you make the money and have it in refunded back to you after 30 working days or have it replaced with mixer in your parcel. Please save this email for reference purpose." I have been in contact with Standard Bank (my bank), FNB and Nedbank. I asked my bank to try and reverse the EFT payment and have now been told by my bank they can't claim because there is 'insufficient funds'. FNB have since notified me that there are no funds available in the account so I have lost all that money. Bank details I have are:

They now also go by Global Technology SA now. And yes, they got me. What can one do to stop and let them be caught? Will it be of any value to open a case at the police. The account number they used is: Standard Bank 387980210

Myself and two people I know were scammed by Mega Plaza last year, which was an online store posing as a legitimate electronics sales company. The people behind this "company" are linked to over 20 other online stores, and have been in operation for over 4 years already. Please beware, do not buy from Mega Plaza. I lost a lot of money and received no goods - and the minute I caught on to what was going on, they refused to take my calls or respond to my emails.

Have also been robbed of a total of ZAR10856.00 by Visiontech Electronics and Stardom City Courier for a Canon DSLR camera advertised. I paid for it, then the price suddenly increased, demurrage and storage costs had to be paid and to date, still no delivery. They advertised on Gumtree and the rest of the transaction was done directly. Nice webpage from Visiontech Eletronics blinded me (no longer available). Wish I could do something about this other that being utterly totally disgusted and ashamed and frustrated because this happened to me.

  • Kenneth5 26 Dec 2014, 12:51 PM

We need to get these guys. Also, do not trust Gouws Deliveery man Global elctro These guys are notorious for advertising on sites such as OLX, Gumtree, and Junkmail. Stay away from these sites. If the prices are too good to be true, then they are. I have learnt and expensive lesson and don't want anyone else to suffer. Have a safe Christmas.

  • Kenneth5 26 Dec 2014, 12:44 PM

I visited and ordered the new Blackberry Passport cell phone, which was advertised at a really competitive price. I registered an account profile on the website and made the payment of R4200 into their bank account which is with FNB. On the day of the delivery, the courier company called Gouws Delivery Man, sends me an email stating that my package is at customs and that I must pay a sum of R1850 in their account in order to secure the package. I then called Hamid from Liptronics and told him that I wasn't aware about the customs payment, but he assured me that once I pay this amount the courier will deliver 3 phones to me (I had only placed an order for one phone) and that he would organize another courier to pick up the remaining two phones from me on Monday 22/12/2014. I found this very suspicious and, hence, cancelled my order altogether and asked for a full refund of the amount I paid into their bank account. I have received no refund nor the product. I have registered a case of transactional fraud with my bank and registered a case with the national police. According to their website the phone numbers are 0612565097 or 0612873099

  • Leah 17 Oct 2014, 04:20 PM

I was also scammed by these people - this time going by the name "Mega Plaza" ( Please stay far, far away from these guys and add comments to this page so that the result comes up in Google search.

  • Mandy18 17 Oct 2014, 12:37 PM

Mega Plaza is a scam too. Exactly the same guys. Scammed two people I know. Please stay far away from them. If any of you guys are in tech, I'm going to create a website for better SEO around this dysfunctional gang of foreigners. I need someone to help out with content & copy. Basically just a collection of EVERYTHING so that it can live in one place. There are several other routes forward here but prefer not to discuss it in public :) Email:

  • Natalie12 9 Oct 2014, 06:06 PM

Yip I also just got scammed by theses people for R19200.00 for an iPhone 6 plus. This time they are operating as Vision Tech Electronics. Also received tracking number from Stardom City Courier. I was told that an additional phone had been dispatched with my phone and I had to pay extra and that this money would be refunded as soon as they received the second phone. Needless to say I have not received one of the phones and ABSA have told me that all the funds have been withdrawn from the account (9299400018).

  • Dylan5 27 Aug 2014, 10:19 AM

Please note that the latest store is offline. Please keep your eyes open for a new one opening.

  • Dylan5 30 Jul 2014, 02:11 PM

I believe they change the web address and store as well as 'company name' every few months to avoid bad web publicity. However their numbers never seem to change.

  • Naseema 29 Jul 2014, 02:12 AM

Hi.I also called 0746299145 for R6000 side by side fridge &was given gadgetsmart website details by a foreign sounding man.I wil not pay for an item I hav not seen so wil rather pay more n buy @ a local mass store. What is confusing is that when u google complaints for gadgetsmart u get a site called scamcheck that says dis co is 94%ttrustable.So who should u believ? If a scamster can create an elaborate website of false items, then creating another scamchecker site,as well as satisfied customer reviews wil b a piece of cake.I couldnt even find any complsints on Hellopeter re gadgetsmart.Any idea why?

  • Kathryn 27 Jul 2014, 07:25 PM

Hi there I wish I saw this before I bought a TV from The site looked legit and I bought a TV for R10k. The TV hasn't arrived. It was also "sent" from Kenya and I could "track" the parcel on All in all, I haven't received my TV and my bank couldn't recall the funds as it was insufficient funds. Has anyone had success in getting their money back? My bank has told me to open a case and they can follow the fraud process. Help?

  • Jay M 17 Jun 2014, 04:39 PM

Hi, These guys are bad, they nearly conned me R4500 but I got suspecious when I noticed that thay site was down. I then check with Afrihost and they confirm that their site has been suspended. So the best part is when you call the owner or registrant of the site, details on

  • Andre62 16 Jun 2014, 09:05 PM

Hi. I just bought a camera for R9000 and was told to get it tomorrow. The website is off now and I came suspicious. I found what you guys said and by the looks of it I will also be caught. Is there no body that can do anything. This was also a Chinese guy.

  • Bernie2 16 Jun 2014, 05:51 PM

Hi, thanks for this forum, I almost bought something on I called first, the guy's accent is definitely chinese, his name Solomon. You guys saved me R 15 500.00. Thanks

  • Jenny24 25 Apr 2014, 08:03 AM

Hi there all they are now operating as another company called I saw a really well priced fridge freezer on OLX and before buying it went to check out hello peter and did some background checks, I also email them all the stuff i found on them ,in their responses the english they use is terrible I think its either Chinese or African they insist they are a legit company and have been around for a long time so i checked to check their domain and that was only created 6 of march 2014 so there is another company name they are operating under now so people becareful.... do some background checks before just spending your hard earned money...

  • Arthur6 30 Jan 2014, 03:02 PM

One recommendation I can make is to check out the life period of the website here: was only created on: 3e. creationdate : 2014/01/17 10:18:39

  • Arthur6 30 Jan 2014, 02:49 PM

wow the store is still up and very shady. On OLX it says they store is in jHB but when I called 'Murry' they say the PS4 console plus 5 games is in PE warehouse.

  • Barend Burger 29 Jan 2014, 02:38 PM

My sentiments exactly. Almost fell for the same PS4 deal as above at What really tipped me off was how quick they were to follow up and try to close the deal. All the verification links on their website seem to be fake.

  • melissa15 20 Jan 2014, 04:35 PM

OMW! I am so grateful. I was seconds away from being scammed. They are advertising on OLX PS4 plus 12 games for R4500.00, far too good to be true. The website the are using is I cannot believe it is 2 yrs down the line and they are still operating. SO SAD!

  • Arthur 5 8 Mar 2013, 03:05 AM

I have been reading the modus operandi described by everyone and I also fell victim paying money into a capitech account. The business was reported on Hello peter by somone else also. They had the ordasity to inform me that i have been scammed and to explain how their system work. They hack an bank account. get you to pay into it and get the money out asap withdrawalls or whatever means. Their sites have no paypal or other means of paying but by paying by EFT. The scam site is . No shame and just continuing opening different sites. Whish I could lay a trap and pay them back. Our police is not near the operation or capabilitie of these scamsters. A very sad day for me as they sit with your address and other personal imfo and R7789.00. I will follow their system as far as I can. The wost is the I told you so back at home.

  • Anelda 22 Jan 2013, 09:26 AM

  • JD3 30 Dec 2012, 05:05 AM

Hello I have just been suckered by the same crime. Be careful for another company called 'Electron Dynamics' Here is my hellopeter report. These people are all colluding fraudsters, the supposed courier company and the advertising company are one and the same, they share banking details, but swap it up depending on the latest victims are. I have also opened a police case. Would love it if the forensics team at the bank and police could actually step up their game and track these people. I believe the come out of the woodwork in the festive season in hope to sucker people out of their year end bonus money. Dealing with real scum here.

  • PatrickVee 29 Dec 2012, 12:48 AM

Was glad to come across this site, I am looking for CDJ850's and saw I was going to pursue an order .. but after reading what has taken place here ... no chance, the contact they gave is Jose Visagie, 073 1549435 .... sorry to those that have lost money - thanks for the warning.

  • Paul Whitehouse 14 Dec 2012, 07:15 PM

Omg this is shocking reading this, i to have been scammed and suspected it was a scam. I ordered 2 pioneer cd dj's from them on monday this week, totalling R16000 and they gave me a tracking number. I then got an sms from them on Wednesday this week to say i must pay R3800 customs clearance which i did and my items have still not arrived. I picked it up that its a scam when they kept changing there story with the delivery dates. they used urban gadget store as the company and prem logists as the courier company. The 071 number is always out of service and the guys i have been speaking to are Steve Taylor and Fred who are both nigerian and fraudsters. I have already logged a case with the local police but the money will never be recoperated. Its sickening to think i had to save so hard for these items and these people have stolen all my money and DJ is my passion. How do these people sleep at night.

  • Chantal16 6 Dec 2012, 11:58 AM
