Ventersdorp farmer attacked

A 50-year-old North West man is in a serious condition after he was attacked on his farm in Ventersdorp, paramedics said on Sunday. Paramedics were called to the scene at 5am and treated the man for multiple stab wounds to his leg, ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said in a statement. He also had a serious fracture of his upper leg and multiple bruises. He was airlifted to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg. "It is understood that the man heard a noise outside his house when his dogs started barking. When he went to investigate, three unknown suspects overpowered him and allegedly assaulted him." The man's wife and daughter were hiding in another room during the attack and were treated for shock. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lesego Metsi said they arrived on the scene as the man was being airlifted to hospital. "The suspects also attempted to steal the man's vehicle. However, the neighbour saw them and fired some shots and they ran away." The attackers were still at large. Police were investigating. Sapa
