Namibian truck driver(car buyer scam)

Please be aware of this scam! We advertised a vehicle on gumtree yesterday and within minutes received a call from “Simon” a truck driver from de Beers mining in Namibia. He was so convincing, he confirmed his got the cash but will collect the vehicle next week, he saw the photos and was happy to pay now and collect later! He wanted us to meet him at Makro in Vanderbijlpark today 6 October at 9:00am but not in the advertised vehicle. He called a few times last night asking that we confirm the minute we leave our house. I searched the number 0714122415 on truecaller but it did not show, I then searched the web and read all about the Namibian truck driver scam!

Please don't meet up with these guys, dangerous!! report it to Carte Blanche. they caught some of these guys about a week after I reported these scammers.
Carte Blanche and a specialised police unit have arrested a dangerous syndicate which targeted people who advertised their vehicles online.

The gang, which operated in the Vaal area, has been going for five years and typically trapped online car sellers with an elaborate scam.

Carte Blanche interviewed people who were targeted by the syndicate, and they all advertised their vehicles on the OLX classifieds website.

In one case, involving a Centurion man, the scammer asked to meet him at a police station in Vanderbijlpark.

“The story is the criminals are actually officers in Vanderbijlpark and have been identified, but as usual, nothing has happened due to a lack of evidence,” he said.

Many reports about the same modus operandi have been posted online

I had two calls today from people trying the same thing, he said hi =s name is Kallie

    Please beware

There are guys pretending to be from Namibia and they want to buy your truck.
The one guy will say he can’t make it, his friend is coming tomorrow and will meet.
He does not need to see car just bring papers and they pay.

Both are fluent Afrikaans guys but they not in Namibia.

Their numbers come up as South Africa .

Please google Namibian Car scams and be careful, if it is too good to be true, it is.

    Be safe
