Gumtree scam

I advertised a Nikon 10-24mm lens for R7300 on behalf of a friend and immediately got a reply:
From: Im keen in buying ur Nikon Lens so let me know if available or contact me on 0765898383

He agrees to purchase the lens and asks for my cel number as he wants to use that as a reference for the bank deposit.

Get another response almost immediately:
From: Hi,
I'm keen with ur 2 lens for sale if there are still available can u give me a ring on 0785230390 or drop me an email.i'm

based in cpt.

Then Colin (Mid or North African accent) calls and say he wants my other lens as well that I am advertising. He will

send a driver to collect. total: R16300

After an hour, I get an sms from a bulk sms number: +2782007011010783 from Nedbank quoting my entire account number at

FNB which I thought unusual as they normally only quote the last few digits that R16300 was paid into my account ref:

Mike Torress.

A few minutes later, I get an email from Colin that he has changed his mind as he is getting the deal cheaper at R16500

from some dealer in my area (there are no dealers in my area).
I thought this very weird, what are the chances that someone else has the exact same 2nd hand lenses at the same price.
Also, the price he quoted is R200 more (he says it's cheaper) and the payment was made by Mike who only wanted one lens;

he does not mention two lenses.

So Mike (Mid or North African accent) calls every few minutes and it sounds like a callcentre in the background from

where he is calling and the phone cuts off, every 30 seconds and he calls back, everytime.

He insists that he has paid the money and I should have received a payment confirmation via sms.
I calmly reply that I recieved an sms but am still waiting for the payment to clear.

It takes up to three days for eft's from different banks to reflect.

Now I receive threatening sms's.
The last one:

"Ok if u don't want tommorow morning transfer back my money dont try any dirty tricks i got u details"

Hi I had the same trouble with a laptop that I am trying to sell. Someone keen to buy called me up. Willing to pay more than the offered price, wated to do and EFT. Sent an sms 'proof of payment' I asked for an email, they sent one with a proof of payment and proof of residence. I checked the proof of payment by phoning their bank and they said it was not trustworthy. I phoned the guy and said I didn't want to do the deal any more. Then I called my other customer back and the same thing happened again, same technique, sms then email and here is the funny bit the proof of residence was exactly the same as before with the name changed. They two guys called themselves Richardson Baron and Alex Kalal. both email addresses were

i also just had the same think two days ago....i was selling my xbox 360 and they guy sent me an email and told me to contact him through a number. i called him and he asked if he could pick up the xbox that day, there was a lot of background noise and i told him he could only pay in cash, he sounded displeased and asked if he could do an eft, i fell for it and allowed it, but i asked for a proof of payment, i got one aswell as an sms from a really long number, the proof of payment look legit, so he sent someone to pick it up, and the guy arrived in a taxi and took my xbox his IP address is and he called himself norman miller and sounded slightly german

I experienced just the exact same thing yesterday except they used different names and numbers, but also with the african accent and bank sms from that same number! When I said I was waiting for amount to reflect in my account the guy got angry and changed the story! Fraudsters!
