A driver of a red vehicle (Registration number KYN684GP) hit a dog, Finius in Boren Street, Witpoortjie. The owner tried to stop her dog when he ran out of their property towards the children on the side walk. We were in our house and heard the car excellarating and then the children screaming. Finius was a lying in the street, initially we throught he was dead and moved him from the street to the sidewalk. Finius moved and we realised he was still alive. The kids came running to pick up their 'dead' dog. Blood was pouring from his eye and nose where the car hit him. I immediately took him to our vet that confirmed that Finius was only in shock and had a bad cut above the eye. After a few injections for shock and pain, Finius was sent back home. The driver of the vehicle lost his number plate on the scene. How stupid can you be to drive away, if he hit the lady whose dog it is he would be charged and sent to jail. Pitty our law does not have the same rules for animals. It cost only R360 to save this dog, but if he hit the lady maybe he would actually go to jail. This was not the only incident, in March I found a cat on my pavement, badly hurt also hit by a car. Unfortunately I had to get the Vet to put him down. His eye was buldging out of the socket, a broker front leg and bad internal injuries. IF this was a child he would have been dead. Stop racing down our streets where animals and children walk (a few metres from the local school).
