Mira Networks Taking money without Authorization

This subscription service gave permission, without our knowledge, to our service provider to allow them to remove R7,00 from a cellphone which has no Internet access and cannot even do MMS. The money was removed without our knowledge until we enquired with the service provider, only to be told that "we had subscribed" to a service known as Kulaville which operates through, MMt and Mira Networks

Just picked up that my cell account was invoice with a full months use reflecting Integrat / MIRA014 (http://www.easyfilez.com/) (http://www.mira.co.za/) This should be investigated and the program should be aired on Carte Blanche. The cellphone providers should be held accountable because it slipped through there security

I am also a victim of the circumstances whereby the same thugs are eating on my MTN airtime. This is really unacceptable. How dare could they do that particularly if one could not subscribe to them!Let this be stopped immediately.

I have a Vodacom 3G Data Contract with Altech autopage and have just noticed that I am unscrupulously being billed for a subscription to VAALOOCOM, I have never subscribed to any of the services. Furthermore it is a 3G modem (not a handset) that is being charged. How is it possible that I can be charged about R6.15 a day for something that I have no knowledge off. I noticed that up to now it has amounted to R1381.50 since February 2014. How can it be legal for a company to start billing a person if they have never Opted IN for a service. Their excuse is that I haven't opted OUT, after monthly reminder sms's being sent. Hence the charging. Again this is NOT a Handset that receives Text Messages. I am currently studying the consumer act to see what recourse to take.

They also deduct R7.50 /day from my wifes account for the last 6 monthes. She never subscribe for any services from MIRA. I think we must stand together and open a fraud case and take this MIRA to court.

For the last 8 months i was receiving rediculous amounts for my cell phone bill..I started monitoring my call duration as i wanted to have facts before approaching my cell phone company. When i enquired with the cell phone company they informed me i was being charged for "content charges", i wanted to know what this was as it was anywhere from R240 - R270 per month. it was discovered that it was mira networks (whom i have no knowledge of), im not a gamer and dont have weird apps on my phone, plus i have free wifi. This is very concerning that they can just access your network and take money without authorization...

  • Ray Samuels 23 Aug 2014, 09:44 AM

Mira networks has illegally been taking off money for a subscription on my husbands phone for which he has subscribed for. He does not use Internet and did not agree to anything to do with a subscription. Up to date they have taken R250 worth of her airtime. We have unsubscribed when we found out who they were because of . The one day they debited money 5 times. This is unacceptable and is a syndicate of theft. Money has been deducted from my vodacom account without my permission.

  • Henry van Rooyen 12 Aug 2014, 03:16 PM

Mira Networks is deducting money from two of my Vodacom numbers. I only realized it today and the total amount is running into the thousands over I don't know how long. I phoned WASPA (www.waspa.org.za) and they are looking into the matter. This is fraud!!!

  • Tanswell 23 Jul 2014, 01:20 PM

Just realised my Vodacom account has been charged with Mira Networks debits for the last (not sure how many months by now). I NEVER EVER authorised them. I do not even know them or what their services are about. This is DAYLIGHT ROBBERY!!!!!We must stop these thieves!!!!

  • Sim 22 Jul 2014, 10:59 AM

Hi Mira networks have been taking R365.00 off my vodacom wi fi for the pass two months. I have never heard of them before and have never subscribed to there service. I am angry that people can steal so easily from you. Is anybody doing anything about them as they are running an illigal business from what I am experiencing. We cannot allow this to go on any longer.

  • Abe5 18 Jul 2014, 05:16 PM

I have been scammed too. Apparently I have signed up for a subscription, that I don't even know of! Just phone vodacom to find out what the hell is going on? According to them I have subscribed for 2 months and last month I have canceled my subscription. I don't know anything about this, till a got the bill???? Shocking!!! And Mira is just smiling all the way. Now how to get my money back, only in my dreams!

  • Peter-John 16 Jul 2014, 01:59 PM

Was also scammed, R10/day for the last 9 months... Firstly, MIRA is just the technology provider, they're not the ones taking money from us. Secondly, there is always a trigger, such as click on a link sent via SMS. It may also be that the actual subscription provider will send a monthly SMS to remind you that you are subscribed to their service. So there's not much we can do except cancel the subscription and be really careful going forward. However, this mechanism needs to be investigated and legislation provided that will curtail the ease with which the providers can say that you've confirmed. Viewing a web page can by no stretch of the imagination be considered as a confirmation of anything. If such legislation is enforced, the technology providers like MIRA will have to comply and that would effectively protect the consumer. In the meantime, all I can suggest to everyone who reads this, is to 1) make sure you read all your SMS'es, 2) never click a link in an SMS unless you know who it's from, and 3) check your cellphone statements every month.

I have also just discovered a subscription to Babedownload, from Mira networks on my girlfriends phone, they have been deducting R5 per day, since february. And i have an Autopage account with MTN. The problem is, how do they do this, how can they just access anyones no, and start deducting money. Surely if we create enough of an outcry, we can get the service providers to prevent this?

  • Birgitt Buchholz 2 Jul 2014, 12:32 PM

I also have not looked at itemized billing in a while. Checked my airtime once in a while at the Vodacom network and had to notice that my airtime got less and less without me doing something. When I really had enough I phoned Vodacom who is deducting money off my cellphone they said Mira Networks because I had subscribed to Bumble Zoo some type of game. I never played any computer games what so ever in my whole life. During the day money (small ammounts)R1.- goes off hourly over night we come to an amount of R20,- daily. I will take them head on now. Busy getting all my ducks in a row. This is a real good scam. I phoned Vodacom since 30.06.to stop and block this on my account. only to find out they are still deducting.I unsubscribed from Mira 2 times and was told I am unsubscribed since the 30.06., money still going off 02.07.

  • Andre Van Straaten 1 Jul 2014, 09:23 AM

I haven't looked at an itemized billing in a while. I've been noticing my Vodacom account has been quite high lately but chalked it up to using up my data bundle and then using out of bundle MB's. I was shocked to see that i am being billed by Mira Networks for a Cellspice service i never signed up for. I had to google it just to see what it was. I don't download videos on my phone and have never subscribed to any such service. This seems to be a lucrative scam judging by the sheer number of complaints on the web, I can't believe nothing has been done to stop this criminal activity. Who in their right mind would pay a R7/day subscription for crappy internet videos?

  • Dries 25 Jun 2014, 10:39 AM

Same story here, by the time you find this out is when you receive your account from your service provider, by then R100dreds of rands are gone already. Vodacom promised me today the 25 June that they stopped the unlawfully theft from Mira, lets see.

  • Francis 23 Jun 2014, 11:46 AM

my sister is experiencing the same problem. and i have called cell c on her behalf and unfortunately i was told that its not possible to get the refunds and that mira networks can not subscribe users without their permission abut its exactly what is happening. what is the solution to this including getting our stolen money back?

  • HG Dowling 20 Jun 2014, 10:38 AM

I have the same complaint with regards to money being deducted from my vodacom account by mira networks without my knowledge and authorization. After 3 months I have got no further with my service provider for allowing unauthorized deductions from my account "a" contract only between myself and vodacom.

  • Username5005 13 Jun 2014, 09:00 AM

Hi Everyone The only way to get your money back is to fight it with these "networks" directly. Or Network providers "can't" help us! Email them, phone them do whatever you need to just don't give up. For every person that just gives up and doesn't request their money back is more money in their pockets, so blocking this service isn't enough..No one knows how they are doing this but like you say I think we should take this up with Carte Blanche

  • Lynda3 13 Jun 2014, 07:58 AM

They have managed to take R6.50 per day from our Vodacom bussiness account. So like Monica I to have written to Carte Blanche to ask for them to Investigate. I agree with Monica the more people who write to Carte Blanche the better our chances.

  • adele 8 Jun 2014, 09:54 AM

Just been a victim of them as well. I haven't subscribed to anything but they have billed my Vodacom account with just over R 2000!!! How do they do this?

  • Monica7 5 Jun 2014, 03:17 PM

Has anyone submitted the story to Carte Blanche? I have just done so but the more people to submit the story the more change they will pick it up! My friend just found charges on her account for "nudigitscom" something she have NEVER subscribed for! This company is stealing from people!!

  • Martin16 5 Jun 2014, 03:05 PM

Mira Networks have been subscribed to my Vodacom Account for 6 Months, taking R111.99 in "Content Services" every month. I am amazed by the fact that they are still in operation, seeing that this scam is hardly a secret.

  • Lizaan 4 Jun 2014, 04:06 PM

Mira Networks took R21 per day out of my account at Vodacom. This has been going on for 3 months now. They need to be stopped. Bruce I will join you!

  • Kavitha3 2 Jun 2014, 08:27 AM

Hi, I've also been robbed by these criminals. I'm with Vodacom and was invoiced R195.99 for something I,ve never subscribed for. There are so many complains against them, why are they still in operation.

  • Marnie 8 May 2014, 04:05 PM

  • Andrew J 14 Apr 2014, 02:44 PM

Similar problem to other complainants but this time the SIM was one implanted in an intercom at a gate - so no way that this sim could have subscribed to 4 pornographic service subscriptions - costing average of R600 per month. Any way of stopping these thieves? When I call their number (0861106472) it immediately diverts to a message saying "we cannot take your call" and when I phone WASPA (0114767710) they simply do the same!

  • Ricky5 14 Apr 2014, 01:44 PM

I have a contract with CellC and have also being paying R6.15 a day since November 2013. My wife did not subscribe to anything and i beleive that Mira Networks are staling money without authorisation. Cell C should not all this to happep as we signed a contract with Cell C.

  • ncebi 14 Apr 2014, 10:24 AM

mira networks also took money from my account on 2 occassions starting in March than beginning of April 2014 without authorisation. Mira networks has illegally been taking off money for a subscription on my daughter's phone for which she has subscribed for. She does not have Internet access and she did agree to anything to do with a subscription. Up to date they have taken R250 worth of her airtime. We have unsubscribed when we found out who they were and they are now doing it again. Every time she gets airtime it goes because of Mira Networks. The one day they debited money 5 times. This is unacceptable and is a syndicate of theft.

  • Gaston Leimer 4 Jan 2014, 06:46 PM

Mira networks illegally reducing my airtime credit for a "Kulaville.com" service. I NEVER subscribed to such a service and only found out when querying this annoying practice at a Cell-C branch. Too many such complaints show me the necessity to investigate such illegal "businesses". Cell- C ,surely you have to shoulder some blame for such shams.
