Locanto Kitten Scam Alert

I found an ad on Locanto, selling British Shorthair kittens. The username of the person on Locanto is Lisa2005. This was their response on my inquiry: "Hello ,please send to me your email address so that i can mail you with more details regarding my babies. Best regards". I sent the person my email and they responded from an email address maxfamilypets@gmail.com. They sent photos of the kittens and all the details. I asked them for proof that it is not a scam and this is what they replied: "Hello ,We are 100% legit .Attachment more pictures of Joy and for more guarantee ,you will have to pay 50% upfront and 50% after delivered upon confirmation of health wise .Let me know your decision about this .Best regards". I paid the deposit into the following account: FNB, reference: Seromo J, Account number: 62487236393, Branch code: 250655. They gave me this contact number: 083 416 6954. Then they emailed me saying that the cat can't be delivered the next day, because her daughter got into an accident and they will be at the hospital all day. So I said it's fine. The next morning, I sent a text asking when I can expect the kitten. She phoned me back ( in a French English accent), crying on the phone and said her daughter passed away the previous night, but will take the kitten to the airport as soon as possible. Later that morning I received an email from deliver.itnow@hotmail.com saying that the cat is at the airport, but that we need to pay R 4,700 for an electronic crate for the cat to be transported in and when the cat is delivered to us, we will get a refund of R 4,200. Obviously then I knew something was not right. A guy phoned me and told me that we need to make the deposit in half an hours time before the next flight leaves. His name is Melvin. I googled the cell number that he phoned me from 0760614146 and the first page was scamalert.co.za. The banking details that he gave me for the electronic crate deposit is: ABSA Bank, Account number: 9296843144, Reference: S Ndlovu, Branch Code: 632005.  There are sick people out there, they will do anything to take your money. Do not fall for this!!

I ordered for sony hxr nx30 hand held palm camcorder advertised on the www.locanto.co.za called themselves start electronic. I paid the amount of R9500.00 plus R250.00 of shipment. It was not delivered within 24 hours as promised. I later received an email which said in the message that I must pay the amount of R3350 for tax and custom duty because the item I ordered plus another canon camcorder which I have not ordered got stuck in the O.R. Tambo airport. I then realized that it was a scam with tracking number 1423599272. Whach out for this. I opened a case which the investigation is failing even to tell me about the account of TJ meso in absa bank where I transferred money from my credit card. The cell number and email of the criminal is 0614658328 and starelectronic86@gmail.com. I later phoned the man demanding my money back but only to receive vulgar words. Investigation is still pending since 2015/02/16. Fraud was committed on 2015/02/10.

My daughter saved R2000 to buy a Ragdoll kitten as advertised by maxfamilypets - contact person Wendy.I smelled a rat when she said they are in East London yet the Ad was placed in CT. They offered a weak explanation and said they could to fly the cat with a Pet Health Specialist at an extra cost. Said we can collect at the airport or they can deliver directly to our home. They sent a batch of beautiful pictures of adorable kittens - because we purchase with our hearts and eyes rather than our brains. I requested proof of ID - from Wendy and bank details in the same name.. She assured us she will be in touch with all the relevant documents. We haven't heard from her yet and we won't either. My gut told me this is a scam - there are so many online and so I Googled and confirmed. Thanks to all of you who posted about maxfamilypets... Please be careful - these scammers are everywhere. Never send money or deposits. Ask for proof of ID - then verify it along with the address - call the Home Affairs or the police station to verify address details. Make sure the ID, address details and bank account is held by the same person. Today, you can manufacture a photo-shopped ID just as easily as you can crop a picture...and always Google to check on listed scams.. A sad reality of life.
